So I have a car this semester and I was wondering where I can get my car inspected so that I am abiding by California Law Standards? I am out of state and don't know how it works and I dont know where to go in LA to get this done.

Is a smog test and California state inspection the same thing?

It isn’t necessary to get your car inspected if you have an out of state license plate. I was curious about this same thing a few years ago, and the answer was confirmed by a couple of USC campus police I asked. My kids have been driving Texas plate cars around LA for years without a problem. One even got a ticket for having a burnt out tail light by LAPD, and the inspection thing was not mentioned at that time, when you would think it would have been if it were an issue.

Don’t forget parking - to park at USC in an on-campus parking structure is currently $396/semester, $792/year. The off-campus parking structure is a bit less.

If you read the info at the website dt123 gave above, if you are an out of state student and your vehicle is registered in your home state, yu don’t have to register it in CA. If you go to the nonresident info page, it explains under what conditions you have to register the vehicle in CA.
