Could you please update where my daughter can get EMT Certificate. I talked to couple of community colleges in Colorado and they mentioned that minimum required age is 18 . My daughter is 16 and preparing for BS/MD program.
I would appreciate recommendations/suggestions
I would think all EMTs need to be at least 18.
in the BS/MD results thread some students mentioned that they completed EMT Certification
The age for EMT certification in Colorado is 18, so that will not be an option for your D.
Other relevant things she may be able to do: volunteer in a hospital or other health care facility, get certified as an assistant CNA, do research at a local university, shadow a physician.
Also take a look at Colorado programs for EMR certification and Wilderness first responder certifications…there could be some that allow 16 years olds to participate.
@veenu Some of the ‘small’ city/town have volunteering EMS Squad, so your D can search around and see if they will take junior volunteer and let her ride the ambulance on calls. If she likes the experience, she can take EMT certification training (~230 hrs) when she is close to 18, pass the NREMT after she turns 18 and becomes a certified EMT.
