I'm a 47 yr old student that will be completing my sophomore year in sociology and looking forward to transfering to a university where there are nontraditional students. I am currently in Texas but desperately want to move but oos tuition is expensive.
Does anyone know of any schools that I could look in to transfering to? I'm up to basically moving anywhere in the US. I was looking into online classes so that I could work and attend school.

Hi, Texasgal -

I’m in a similar situation - transferring from a CC (AA with Emphasis in English) and checking out all my options. You’ll find a lot of the online information about transferring assumes a traditional freshman/sophmore college student looking to transfer from one college or university to another. There are, of course, a lot of CC students, too, but not many nontrads.

Do you have a reason for looking OOS? TX is pretty big, after all Could you study in a different part of the state? I ask because one thing to consider is the adjustment of an OOS move on top of adjusting to a new school, not to mention having a job, etc.

Would you be able to transfer with your job? Are online classes a must, or just a nice option? There are some accredited distance schools, but if you’re thinking of a purely online, (or mostly online) education, why does it matter where you live? You can live anywhere if you’re learning online! :)
