Where to go from here?

<p>Okay, so I just saw my first SAT scores today and I am not happy - </p>

<p>2090 Comp
630 CR
740 M
720 W</p>

<p>I don't mean to sound arrogant when I say I'm not happy, but this is much lower than my first and only ACT score (34) and my PSAT score (223). Is there a reason I did so much better on the other tests? </p>

<p>Also, I have been consistently scoring at least a 680 in CR and at least a 740 in W, but I must have done something wrong during the test. I guess what I am asking now is, what should I do? I have a few options - </p>

<p>1) Retake the SAT. I think I can get it to about a 2170 as long as I dont make a bunch of stupid mistakes again, but would a 80-point jump help? I would then send my SAT and ACT together.</p>

<p>2) Send only my ACT score. This may be the best option but I'm still not sure.</p>

<p>Which option do you think is better?</p>

<p>Send only the ACT. A 34 is really good. Anything less than a 2250 on the sat wont help you at all. You could take the ACT againg if anything.</p>

<p>Thanks FutureDocSauve, but isn’t it better to send in both the SAT and ACT than just one of the two (especially when the one is the ACT)? That’s what I have heard and why I am worrying so much, but I could definitely be wrong. I feel like that shows that I can actually do well on more than just one test (all other factors aside) if I were to send in my SAT scores as well. I guess I’m just really confused haha</p>

<p>Hi kitts95 I can’t really advise you on whether or not to retake but i can give you an educated opinion on whether or not sending an ACT score alone will hurt you. Honestly, every college rep (from johns hopkins to swarthmore) I have talked to said they have NO preference of the SAT over the ACT. I know that often times the ACT gets a bad rep but it really doesnt matter. If I were you I would just send the ACT and maybe retake it if you think you can raise it by a point. hope this helped :)</p>

<p>Thanks loomis! That did help… I guess I was just worried the ACT didn’t carry as much weight as the SAT since I live in the Northeast! Now that I know that’s not true, I guess I will study my butt off and take them both again! Hopefully I can get that ACT up a point and the SAT up about 200 points haha</p>

<p>Agreed, they are both the same. Only send both if they are about even. In your case, they aren’t. A 34 is good at even HYP.</p>

<p>Thanks guys! I have decided to take the SAT once more in January, and depending on the score, I will send in the best ones. This probably means sending only the ACT, but we will see when January scores come out!</p>

<p>some schools require either the ACT or SAT score, so I think it would be okay to send just your ACT score, which is, by the way, superb.</p>
