@mom2collegekids she’s a dental technician, been working in that field for 25+ years lol. Is the estimated cost of attendance accurate? Isn’t 30k too much? The cost for books is expected to be $1000, can’t I just rent/find books online for much cheaper? Personal expenses would cost $5500 which includes phone bills, gas, food, however I don’t pay for any of that. I also went to UCSB’s orientation, and the price for housing was around 12k on portal, HOWEVER, I checked off-campus apartments and it would only cost $7.5k for 3 bedrooms w/ 3 people per bedroom
@mom2collegekids
Tuition: 14,409
Housing & meals: 11,418
Books & Supplies: 1,143
Transportation: 840
Other Education Costs (Health Insurance, personal expenses): 5,301
Total net cost: 30,694 including the health insurance grant I received.
Like I mentioned, I could go off-campus apartments & reduce it to $7,500. I wouldn’t think I would be driving a car, so I would bike everywhere. My mom would be paying for my personal expenses. I just received my application for all the other UC’s except LA & berkeley, and they all offer me financial aid from $8000-13,000. Kind of ridiculous how UCSB doesn’t at all. But thanks! Guess her hard work paid off
@mom2collegekids I have no idea if she’ll cosign, but I’m pretty sure she won’t be pleased. 7.5k is for a 9 month contract with utilities, internet, etc.
Edit: OOPS, I thought it was a 12 month contract. If it’s a 9 month contract, then it would lower down to $5,526.
@mom2collegekids@thumper1 Oops it’s 2 bedrooms w/ 3 people per bedroom. My mistake haha. UC Davis is smack in the countryside. One of my friends who attends there pretty much hates it, so that’s one more reason to not go
@mom2collegekids I fixed the FAFSA some days before the decisions came out. Does this mean that UCSB might change their financial aid package, and that I receive some type of grant?
@thumper1 Well, UCSB probably didn’t adjust for my fixed FAFSA, so they can or might give out aid? That’s what I’m waiting for. I REALLY want to go here.
On Monday, why don’t you give UCSB financial aid a call. Ask to speak to your financial aid officier. Find out the status of your financial aid application. Tell them you made the correction because your dad is no longer alive…and you subtracted his income.
