Accepted:
UNCW, Washington College, Baylor
Waiting: UVA, University of Delaware, University of New Hampshire, Christopher newport university
Denied: Penn State

anyone? :)

well if you get into UVA, i would suggest there but UVA is much more selective than penn state. If you dont get into UVA then i would say go to UDEL. I have alot of friends who love it there. I dont really know much about the rest of the schools on your list expect for having one friend at uncw which they enjoy alot.

Thank you!

What about the financial aid packages? When you get those, run your numbers here: [FinAid | Calculators | Award Letter Comparison Tool](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Award Letter Requirements - Finaid) Usually that will help turn a long list into a much shorter one.

What is your major and intended career?

What kind of school do you want?

What is your home state?

Will your parents pay for whatever school that you get into? If not and you need FA, then that issue may narrow your list.

mom2collegekids:
What is your major and intended career?
Microbiology or some other form of biology/undecided yet but something in the med field
What kind of school do you want?
somewhere I will feel welcomed
What is your home state?
Virginia
Will your parents pay for whatever school that you get into?
I can attend all the schools on that list, but yes only with some form of FA

*Will your parents pay for whatever school that you get into?

I can attend all the schools on that list, but yes only with some form of FA *

??

Can you clarify? If you can only attend those schools with some form of FA, then your question is rather moot until you see FA packages. A few of those schools are OOS publics that don’t give much/any aid to OOS students.

There’s no point in deciding “where to go” because your favorite choices may be completely unaffordable. Of your list, only UVA meets need, but who knows if they’ll expect your parents to pay more than they will.

Have you run any NPCs on these schools’ websites?

How much will your parents pay each year? If you don’t know, ask.

*SAT: 1670
ACT:25
GPA: 3.3
*

With your stats, it’s unlikely that you’d get a preferential pkg.

Don’t feel bad about PSU, they don’t give aid to OOS students, so if your parents wouldn’t pay full freight for PSU, it wouldn’t have worked out anyway.

They will pay around 25,000-35,000 and I will be filling out that Fafsa as well

so anyone else? :)

Have you visited any of the colleges yet? I really feel that is key into deciding which university to attend. We as parents thought for sure our DD would chose either Ball State or Kent and once she visited she really did not like either one at all. The one she chose and absolutely loves was based on her “feelings.” She felt comfortable there and could see herself attending. I know that sounds silly but you have to like where you are going irregardless of stats and prestige. You are going to be spending many years there so it is important to also like it.

Thank you
I have been to Washington College, UVA, CNU, University of Delaware, and thats it. I hope to get to UNCW and UNH soon

I love all the schools equally now:(

^^^
Well, just wait and see where you’re accepted and what your FA pkgs look like.

SAT: 1670
ACT:25
GPA: 3.3

I’m guessing that your GPA is too low and your test scores are too low for UVA.

UVA
91% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
5% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
2% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49

96% have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. That suggests that those with lower GPAs are athletes, special admits, and URMs.

UVA middle quartiles

SAT Critical Reading: 600 - 710
SAT Math: 620 - 740
SAT Writing: 610 - 720
ACT Composite: 28 - 34

Your test scores are well below the middle quartiles. Again, that lower quartile is likely for athletes and other speical admits.

*They will pay around 25,000-35,000 and I will be filling out that Fafsa as well *

If your parents will pay $25k-35k per year, I’m guessing that they earn too much for you to get financial aid other than a small loan.

FAFSA for those schools is mostly for determining whether you qualify for federal aid. Federal grants are for lowish income people. Your EFC will be too high for those.

I’m curious…how did you pick your assortment of schools? They seem kind of random.

What is it that you want in a school besides academics?

A sailing team

There have been a couple of threads about finding schools with sailing teams. If you run a search for that term you should find them. Better yet, start a new thread in the Parents Forum with a title like “GPA X.X Budget YYk Need school with Sailing Team”.

But I have already found my schools ^^^^^^

^A sailing team? Baylor and New Hampshire have sailing teams? I am not sure how many of the schools you picked even meet this criteria.

Every school on that list believe it or not has a sailing team

Some better than other of course :P
