Where to go?

Hello all, I am a transfer student looking to go into B.F.A acting. Since the Audition season is over, I'm trying to decide where to go with the places I've been accepted. Unfortunately money is a big deciding factor. However I am curious on who thinks which school has the best acting program.

The places that I have been accepted for ACTING is as follows....

Point Park University

Illinois State University

Western Michigan

University of Utah

Northern Illinois University

Viterbo University

Thoughts ?

My daughter will be a freshman at Northern Illinois this fall in the BFA Acting program. She is THRILLED! She is a MT major at her performing arts high school but was looking to learn acting technique. She wants to focus on acting because she has been trained in dance and voice but has not really had great training in acting. One of her friends is an MFA student and has glowing reports of everything! We are from Florida and my son goes to NYU (BFA Acting). When she visited the school last fall, she absolutely fell in love with the program, the theatre staff and the students, the people, the campus, etc. She also loves the fact that she will study in Russia in her junior year. (it’s the only BFA program we found that has this) The teachers at NIU have a great reputation. Some of them came from Rutgers and they teach Meisner. Just youtube Kathryn Gately and you will be very impressed with her and the program. The school is close to Chicago and offers a true college experience (football, Greek life, other majors, even a law school, etc.)! It’s also very affordable for an out of state student. What we will pay for all 4 years at NIU is the equivalent of about one year or so at NYU. My daughter also likes the fact that they have a strong dance program and music department so she can continue to study dance and voice. The BFA dept head, Stanton Davis, is well versed in stage combat and voice work. He really prepares the students for a professional career. It’s a gem of a school and program! Have you visited the campus yet? All of this comes from a mom who has researched and researched programs and NIU is a great fit for my daughter just as NYU is for my son. Also, one of my favorite actors, Joan Allen, is a graduate of NIU and I love the ties they have with the theatres in Chicago. Much luck in your decision and if you choose NIU, please feel free to pm me! Good luck!
