I am considering studying abroad next semester or year, haven't decided yet. I have narrowed my choices down to four. Copenhagen Denmark, Brighton England, Torino Italy, or Bilbao Spain. I will be a junior next year and am an accounting major. Haven't decided on a minor yet but considering European Studies, International Business, or Foreign Language if I go to Italy or Spain. I am only fluent in English but willing to learn. I don't know a whole lot about any of these places but the programs all fit my academic needs. Just looking for a little advice about which one to pick so if anyone could help me out it would be great.

Thanks!

Well, if you’re at all interested in learning a language, don’t go to England! I think the other 3 look like much cooler locales anyway.

Of the three foreign languages you’re thinking of studying (Danish, Italian, and Spanish), Spanish is by far the most useful for most Americans. Knowing ANY foreign language is a valuable asset, but Spanish is currently the most commonly spoken second language in the U.S.

As far as whether to study for a semester or a year, STUDY FOR A YEAR! A semester is not enough. I studied in Argentina for a semester and to this day wish I’d studied a whole year there. Everyone I’ve talked to about this agrees with me. One semester is just not enough time to soak up a language and culture. So if you can, go for a year.

Good luck!
