Where to live as a sophomore?

Hey guys, what do you think is the best housing options for sophomores on campus? I'm trying to figure out where to live next year. Quality of the rooms is slightly more important than location for me, and I'm looking for like a 2 or 3 room double like I have this year. I was going to apply to Wheelock...until like 10 people told me horror stories about the kids who live there and how I should not do it. Just to get some feedback on where the best place for sophs is?

Regarding EW, jmho, but I think a lot really depends on the dynamics of the people. When my D lived in EW her freshman year, she lived on a floor that was very tight, they were all friends and she really have a great time and a great experience there. She also have friends, who roomed together and lived in EW again sophmore year and are still having a great time. She said that EW does become a bit more isolated sophmore year becasue you will know more people who are spread out across campus and you probably won't be there other than to sleep.

The other side of the coin is that there was a group of freshmen who lived above her, and she said they did not get a long at all and it was kind of horrible.

The upside is that housing is guaranteed for sophmores. The downside is that sophmores are still going to be at the bottom of the food chain in the housing draw. Definitely get together with your prospective roommates, come up with a plan, have a list of building and rooms, and let the person with the best draw # pick.

A lot is going to depend on what number you draw for your class. As you know the better the number the more options you will have.

Will living in the new housing be an option for you? It reads like they should really be nice. Take into consideration what you will be doing next term (are you on leave, will you be pledging, are you considering living in greek housing)

Overall, your best bet would be to talk to your friends on campus who are upper classmen to find out what they like, dislike about their housing. The worse case scenario, is that if you don't like your housing in the fall, there will be some movement in the winter and you can see what opens up.

good luck

According to the Dartmouth, it looks likequite a few of 9's will be living in the Fayerweathers because there is going to be new advising for the sophmores.

The Fayerweathers, which have traditionally been sophomore-dominated, will be reserved entirely for second-year students once the advising program is implemented.

*"Sophomores right now aren't assigned an adviser [as] they are as first-year students and those ready to graduate. They are making many important decisions at this point and need assistance,"
Gaposchkin said.

The committee will spend time during spring term talking to first- and second-year students about their advising needs. Panels and other events will be held in order to learn what students want.*

I'm having a bit of trouble deciding myself. In the long run, where I end up will likely matter very little, since I will only be on campus fall term (until soph. summer). I reapplied to EW, but I won't be crushed if I'm not accepted. If that's the case, I suppose I'd opt for something centrally located (e.g. Gold Coast, Russell Sage, etc.).

I agree on the capriciousness of the different floors of EW. The floor I'm on is very cohesive, whereas the other freshman floor beneath is rather subdued.

I would LOVE to live in the Fayerweathers but they're all triples and quads. What have you guys heard about New Hamp?

From what I've heard, it's one of the most party-happy dorms on campus; a friend who lives there said that there was alcohol in every room on the floor. Anyone who's read the police blotter understands why New Hamp is a bit infamous ;)
