Where to live off-campus

My son isn't even there yet, and I'm worried about "what's next." He wants to live off campus. I was shocked at how much The View costs, and it looks like they only do 12 month leases. What are the other "normal"options for upperclassmen? My son has a car, but I'd prefer he not have to use it.

I understand this completely bc my daughter will be a sophomore and has an apartment. I was really hoping to get at least two years on campus. Most of the places they looked at do have the twelve months lease. She is sharing a two bedroom one bathroom apartment with three of her sorority sisters. It is much nicer than the north campus dorms, but not as nice as the View or the Varsity. It’s cheaper than those two places but I think it’s still a lot for the amount of space they have. The location is exactly where they wanted it though.
She has friends that are living in New Leonardtown this coming year. They are located behind frat row and basically are apartments, but because they are considered official university housing, they are furnished like the regular dorms. Lots of students live in their sorority/fraternity houses sophomore/junior year and there are a ton of little houses that people also rent out. Some are close enough where no car is needed and some are farther away. I think the closer you are to campus, the more you pay.

Well, it’s not off campus, but there are apartments that are technically on campus, yet privately owned - South Campus Commons. They are really nice - fully furnished, private bedrooms with full size beds, common living room and kitchen, dishwasher, washer/dryer.

I can’t believe I forgot South Campus Commons. Maryv is right, they are very nice. As a sophomore it is kind of difficult to pull off because of the housing lottery, not impossible though. I think a lot of juniors live there. They are
modern and clean with a fantastic location. The students will get info prior to the start of the housing lottery on how to proceed with possibly leasing at SCC.

Thanks. I typed a reply the other day, but somehow I didn’t post it. We have several months before we need to start Looking for an apartment, assuming he doesn’t change his mind.
