Does anyone have any suggestions on where to put Certifications? Through a rigorous certification course, my son has his license to referee soccer (which he does as a job). He is trying to figure out where the certification belongs on the Common App. Honors or Activities doesn't seem right? Maybe in the Add'l Information box?

anyone have any thoughts??

We kind of have same question for life guarding. Seems like it could be with extracurriculats

I have certifications for various Microsoft office programs, and I plan on putting them under the Honors section. I believe that your son’s licensure is similar to my certifications.

I’m putting mine under honors as well, but mostly because I have a dearth of awards.

Thanks for the insights. I guess Honors makes more sense than Activities. I don’t really see it quite in the “honor” category but its the best fit within the CA. And certainly better than having to put it in the Add’l Info section (which, based on other comments, seems as difficult a “cut and paste” problem as the Personal Essay section!)!

When my son entered his soccer certification into the Honors section, he realized he still had no place to put down a description of what he did to earn the license. Therefore, he now has the cert under the Honors section and in the Add’l Info section with the description. Make sense. Anyone else do this?

I think a number of folks are doing it that way. Our D isn’t, though. She is putting her more complex awards only in the additional info section without any reference to, or repetition of them in the honors section. Her honors section is going to be full, so there isn’t room for a placeholder entry there pointing the adcom to the additional info. But, either way is really fine.

Thanks for your thoughts. Since my son does have room in the honors section (I guess unfortunately ), he can put the Cert there and then explain it in the Add’l Info section. This all becomes so confusing and time consuming for these poor kids to fill out, and it just shouldn’t be so difficult!
