Hi there, my child is a rising junior, we are planning for smmmer programs for him. I am just wondering, in Common Application, shall we put a summer program such as CTY under "if you have taken a college/university course beginning with 9th grade, please indicate number of colleges" or "activity"? Thank you

No it goes in the Activities Chart Section. If you have more than 10 activities then it goes in the additional info section. College classes are only those which are true college classes and the student gets a transcript from the college. CTY summer programs are looked upon more as activities. On my DD’s resume she had a section called “Special Talents and Interests” and that is where we put her summer programs (she had 3 of them).

My recollection is that itsv is correct. A college/university course is an actual college course, not a summer program. But you really don’t need to worry about details like where to list it yet. You won’t even fill out this form for another year and a half. It might not even be the same by then.

Yep, activities/EC section of Common app. Since there is room for only 10, kid has to write all ECs/activities/jobs/ everything out on a separate sheet of paper. Then based on areas that you want to emphasize or deemphasize you can eliminate some of the ECs/activities/jobs and clump a few others together that are similar until you have the 10.

Thank you all, now I understand!
