Where to Stay for Campus Days'

@all: thanks for the responses, money isn’t really a problem but I feel really bad about blowing my parent’s money unnecessarily so I was trying to figure out a plan that would cost the least amount possible. Anyways, I think I’m just going to drag my mom along for convenience sake.

Ballpoint, I’m sure you mom would enjoy Ann Arbor. However, I just remembered something from the year my son applied – there were a ton of musician students auditioning and many of them did not bring parents. The hotels the music students stayed at were near north campus (Holiday, Hampton, MIcrotel etc.) You might also want to call them before you decide if you mom would rather not go.

that’s really weird…i just called Holiday and they said I needed to be at least 21  should i say I’m auditioning lol will try calling Hampton and MIcrotel

I’ve never had a hotel ask me my age.

Maybe the auditioning students parent’s just called FOR them, make the reservation, and then the brought the matching credit card to check in…???

When my daughter was leaving for an overseas trip and had to stay in NYC overnight to make her flight, I called the hotel and explained that she was not 21, but that I would be responsible for the charges, and gave them my credit card. There was no problem at all. Maybe your mother should do the calling.

There are basically three places to stay right on campus:

The Bell Tower Hotel, 800.562.3559, on Thayer between North U & Washington. Older but right on campus.

Dahlmann’s Campus Inn, 800.666.8693, at the edge of campus on Huron at State.

The Ann Arbor Bed & Breakfast, 734.994.9100, on Huron at Fletcher.

All three are essentially on campus so you’d be free to walk around on your own once you get to town. They are probably more expensive than some of the options on the edge of town, but they eliminate the need for transportation once you finally get here. This will also give you the chance you eat at some of the fun restaurants along State Street as opposed to some in-house hotel cafe. Also, I’m pretty sure the airport Super Shuttle services all three locations.

Friends have stayed at the Bell Tower and the Campus Inn and found them adequate and safe. I know nothing about the Ann Arbor B&B. Check the web pages and have your parents call ahead.

I accompanied my daughter. If you’ve already decided to go to Michigan, there is no need to attend campus day. It’s a salesy day, although she did not get a t-shirt.

thanks, i decided to go with my mom this weekend; appreciate all the input!
