Where to stay near campus

I’m sure this has been discussed somewhere, so I apologize, but could someone give me recommendations for hotels near campus that are decent. I found a list of hotels to avoid, which will be helpful, too.

When are you coming? I have two VRBO condos near the university that I rent out to campus visitors for a discounted rate. You can PM me if you’d like more info.

(note: VRBO rentals are often best for families/groups because of their ability to accomodate 4-8+ people in multiple bedrooms, therefore their prices usually reflect those situations - especially at “peak times” (football games, graduations, etc.)

Avoid: (these places aren’t well-maintained, yet they will charge high prices during peak times…so that can be misleading)

Motel 6
Super 8
Masters Inn
Rodeway Inn
Quality Inn

LaQuinta seems fine inside, but it’s in a sketchy area, so avoid if possible.

My thoughts on Quality Inn on McFarland (behind O’Charley’s). Yes, it is old, and no interior hallways. Be we found our room very clean and quiet, even facing I-59/I-20, good firm bed, everything in good repair. ALL the hotels charge exhorbitant rates for football/graduation/move-in/move-out weekends. Supply and demand, folks. Their normal rate is very reasonable. There’s a free breakfast included, but I never sampled it and can’t rate it.
