Planning a trip with S20. Any recommendations for where to stay geographically, to get the best feel for the environment surrounding the campus? It looks like there are a few different clumps of hotels in different directions. Thanks.
We usually stay at the Embassy Suites on Emerywood Parkway. Very nice hotel and breakfast is included. During some times of year they offer a free shuttle to campus.
Last time we were there, we stayed in an Airbnb close to campus.
When we first visited the campus, we stayed at the Homewood Suites near the Richmond Airport.
After our daughter was accepted and we flew in together for freshman and parents’ orientations, we stayed at the Homewood Suites - West End/Innsbrook location, which is about a 25 minute ride to campus, but convenient to shopping, such as Bed, Bath, and Beyond when we purchased essentials for her dorm.
For her recent graduation, we stayed at the Embassy Suites which is the closest hotel to campus.
Because our daughter had to fly in from a great distance, when she was a student at UR, we usually had her arrive the day before the dorms opened and had her stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Innsbrook. She would take either Uber or Lyft there from the airport and then Uber or Lyft again to the campus the following day.
To fly home at the end of the term, our D had to take early morning red eye flights out of Richmond in order to make her connecting flight, so we booked a room for her at the Hilton Garden Inn at Richmond Airport, and she used their free airport shuttle to get a ride to the terminal after she checked out.
For convenience, it’s hard to beat the Embassy Suites in Richmond, but the other hotels were less expensive, especially if using Hilton Honors points for award stays.
Within 2-3 miles, there are several Marriott hotels are that your typical major chain hotels. Nice, comfortable, and short distance to the school. There is an area called Short Pump about 15-20 minutes north, with Hyatt, Marriott, Courtyard hotels. We like that area because of the shopping and excellent restaurants.
We have stayed at a Marriott Residence Inn in the Short Pump area. Getting to campus is easy from there, and it is convenient to restaurants and shopping. We have also stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn at Dickens Road, a bit closer to campus. It is nice to have a fridge/kitchen if staying for several days.
