Where to stay near Point Park

I have two questions regarding Point Park: where should we stay, and should we rent a car at the airport or take a taxi to and from the school to the airport? Thanks!

We stayed at the Sheraton Station Square . Right by the river room service, hotel restaurant and a Starbucks in the lobby. Plus they have a shuttle service to the local colleges and universities, we just worked it out with the Concierge when we arrived.

We used Tony William’s Car Service. +1 (412) 638-4790 to and from airport and to take us to dinner.

When we visited in November for CMU, our trip was worry-free and both the hotel and car service made it east.

The Sheraton Station Square is very nice. Station Square in general is very nice. During the weekends traffic in the city isn’t bad at all, you won’t have any problems getting around if you chose to rent a car. The Omni William Penn is also very nice, not far from PPU. The Courtyard by Marriot isn’t as expensive but still nice. We are local so I don’t normally stay in the city but these I’ve heard are nice. When is the audition? PPU put on great performances, check the schedule so you can catch a show while you are in town.

BethsMom, I’d say the Sheraton Station Sq is a good bet, too. It is literally right across the river from Point Park and is within walking distance. Also, there are a few hotels downtown not far from campus. There is a Doubletree, as well as the William Penn, which has that old time feel, but has been updated, also a Courtyard by Marriott, and a couple of others. If you search online, the downtown zip codes are 15222 and 15219.

That car service sounds good, and a cab from the airport to downtown Pittsburgh is easy, and public transportation runs a shuttle straight from the airport to downtown Pittsburgh (28X is the bus number) for $3.75 each way. Also, you will be able to walk where you need to go in downtown Pittsburgh.

When you are at Point Park, go to Oakland. It is not part of the official drill, but it is important. Point Park is downtown, and most of the classes are downtown, but the performance space is the Pittsburgh Playhouse and it is in Oakland, which is a stone’s throw from town. PPU runs a constant shuttle from the downtown campus to and from the Playhouse. Most of the kids move to the neighborhood near the Playhouse after freshman or sophomore year, and Oakland becomes the center of their universe, so it is worth checking out. They are building a new Playhouse/COPA class space on campus downtown, but they will still be using the Oakland Playhouse for a couple of years. Not sure what the timetable is.

There are also a number of hotels in Oakland (15213) and a Hampton Inn right next to the Playhouse. The Oakland hotels will work if necessary, and are good for CMU visits as it is on the other side of Oakland about a mile and a half from the Playhouse. The airport 28X runs to Oakland as well, FYI, if any of you end up with a kid at PPU or CMU.

MTMajorCook, you posted while I was writing mine! Sorry to be repetitive, redundant, to say things over and over.

I was going to add “I’m sure collegesearchdad will have some better advice” LOl

Thank you to all of you. My daughter’s audition is on Saturday. Break legs to all of your children!

We stayed at the Marriott City Center - which was a little pricey - but my D fell in love with the bellman and his tophat. (Mostly she fell in love with the hat)

We drove in from MI - and so did have the added expense of parking - but the campus was less than 5 minutes from the hotel - and we parked in a structure that was just a block from Lawrence Hall. Break a Leg!
