Where to stay?

We are going to JMU Feb. 16th for the admitted students' event. Any hotel recommendations in the area?

Holiday Inn Express was nice two years ago.

Hampton Inn is right down the road. We stayed there this fall for the open house and just book again for Feb. Nice clean rooms, breakfast buffet (not the Waldorf but adequate!), right down the road from campus and close to what we assume is the city center (?)- shopping centers, chain restaurants etc.

We take our dog so we stay at the Comfort Inn but I would probably stay there even if we were dog free. Second choice is the Hampton Inn. I also like the Village Inn - not as convenient, but much roomier than the others and the people there are incredibly nice.

If you have time for a meal while there - or when you're back in town - check out Clementine. My D and I were there recently and we really enjoyed it.

If the decision has been made to attend JMU, you may want to look into booking a hotel for parents weekend. Many are already full or costly. Holiday Inn is still available @ 149/night.

Thanks for the suggestions! When is parents' weekend?

October 9-11. Go ahead and make reservations now. The hotels will fill fast and they will gouge you. I did not go last year because of a wedding and my daughter decided that she would rather for me to come on a different weekend anyway when everything wasn't so busy.

Try going to Priceline and offer a $45.00 rate. My offer last night ended up with the Jameson Inn which is quite new, 2 miles from the campus and has good reviews. It is normally $100.00+ per night. Good luck :)

Was that Priceline bid for the February date or for Family Weekend? The Hampton Inn and Village Inn are already booked for Family Weekend. Comfort Inn has no more "rack room" rates available and the Jameson Inn is booking that weekend at almost $200 a night. This is a drawback to a college town with so few choices in accommodation.

Mine was for a February date, but you could try $100 for the family weekend and see what it gives you. If there is nothing available or the price not reasonable, it will not charge your credit card, so it is worth a try :)

I'm going to the Feb. 16th date with my parents as well. We're staying at the Courtyard Marriot, we stayed there when we first visited JMU and it was soooo nice! It's also just a few minutes from campus.
