Where to take AP courses online for credit?

I go to a small school that doesn’t offer any AP classes, but I’ve self-studied and taken the test for a couple AP exams already. For my senior year transcript when applying to college, I want to be able to put some AP classes on there, and my guidance counselor said it’s possible to do this if I take the AP class through an online accredited provider. Does anybody have any recommendations? My counselor has already suggested Virtual High School and Bringham Young University.
I can’t do anything too expensive since I’m playing on taking a couple and, well, I don’t have much to spare  Some of the classes I was thinking of taking are AP Chemistry, AP World or European History, AP Latin, AP Calculus BC, and/or AP English Literature or Language and Composition. I also live in Illinois if that makes any difference.

Are there any free online ap classes?

@athenanv13 I was looking for free AP classes online a while back, but I couldn’t find any that were from an accredited provider or that gave credit/grades :frowning: Which is unfortunate because a free, online AP course that gave credit would be pretty amazing!

Dang it! I wish there were! Thank you!

@athenanv13 I know, me too! And no problem

@athenanv13 However, if I find something, I’ll let you know!

I’m not sure if this is within the price range for which you’re searching, or if it’s what you’re looking for at all, but CTYOnline (through JHU) provides a wide range of online AP classes. It’s accredited and can give you course credit.

@normanxi Thanks for your answer! Their prices seem a little too expensive for me, but they have a wide variety of courses, so if I don’t find anything else, I’ll probably try there

Since you self studied and took the AP test, could your counselor give you independent study credit?

@TNE2011 What is independent study credit? I will mention it to my counselor because I did self-study for 3 exams already (Psychology and the two English ones), and self-studying senior year would actually be a lot easier (and less expensive) for me. Thanks for your answer by the way

My daughter did AP Biology through BYU and it was reasonably priced.

Independent study is exactly that, you study independently. You did the work and have proof since you passed the AP exams. I would think this is the same as home schooling.

Yeah. At my school, a lot of people take AP exams for which they never took the class because after buying 5 or so tests, the rest cost nothing. Even though they didn’t take the class, they can still get credit for passing the exams.

@NorthernMom61 Ya, I think BYU is my first choice for taking AP courses online because they are quite reasonably priced. However, I don’t think they offer AP Chemistry, which is what I really wanted :frowning: But thanks for your answer!

@TNE2011 and @normanxi Thanks for your answers! So you guys are saying that if I self-study, I can still put it on my senior year transcript? Like on the section of college applications where it asks for my senior year courses, I can list AP classes that I self-studied for?

You need to check with your counselor if they will put this on your transcript.

BYU’s independent courses are pretty cheap.
Also consider north star acad.

Check with your counselor. In any case, you’ll be able to report your exam scores for the chance to get some credit.
