Where to...

Hello everyone! I'm a freshman boarder at Milton this year and I'd like to clarify a few things.

There are 150 kids in my grade, 100 boarders, 50 day students. That makes our school 2/3 boarders and 1/3 day students.

There are 8 dorms, 4 boys, 4 girls. Two of these dorms are off campus (about an 8 minute walk to the center of campus). The experience of living off campus is highly beneficial to these students. They are required to be extremely organized for a trip back to the dorm on the way to practice is not an option.

Also, this year, only 3 DCs (discipline committees -- kids getting in big trouble) have occurred. Think about it, only 3 kids have done something recognized as being against school rules. 2 of these DCs were for very minor violations.

Every school has a spot where kids dump their backpacks, ours happens to be in the student center. This is not out of the ordinary. We have a very clean (and eco-friendly) campus. These posts about broken furniture are preposterous.

And what in the world was that post about people sleeping in the gym? Haha, don't get me wrong, but that's just strange.

On Milton's website, it states that the upper school is 50% boarding Milton Academy. Perhaps they needed to fill boarding spots with your class.

Thanks mpicz for the site! =D

I went on it and I think Andover was 20%, Exeter 21%, Deerfield 18% so you were pretty dead on westcoast xD Milton's was 30%, and since the main reason I wasn't applying there was because I thought it had a low acceptance rate, I'll probably apply to Andover, Exeter, and Milton. Not sure yet, but pretty. Thanks so much everyone who helped!

30% isn't a high acceptance rate, if I were you I would think about NMH or Kent as your final choice.

"Also, this year, only 3 DCs (discipline committees -- kids getting in big trouble) have occurred. Think about it, only 3 kids have done something recognized as being against school rules. 2 of these DCs were for very minor violations."

that doesn't mean that there haven't been more infractions that weren't caught. i don't think there's necessarily any reason to think there are more of these infractions at milton than at other schools, but there was that disturbing book 'restless virgins' that came out a few years ago.

Restless Virgins was a book that followed the lives of 4 kids, kids who happened to violate school policy. The only reason Milton's scandals are exploited is because we are a prestigious school 8 miles from Boston. More than likely, this type of thing occurs at every school, it's just not made into a big deal.

And so what? If they weren't caught then they got off lucky, but this happens at every school!

Yes Milton's acceptance rate is 30%.
But Kent's is 44%.
And NMH's is 46%.

Just laying out the facts.

(all stats from boardingreview.com)

Well, I'd rather go to a school with a lower acceptance rate.. But not too low.

Does that make sense? >.< And since we know people that have gone/go to Milton, Exeter, and Andover, my parents feel safer sending me there, since neither them or myself have heard of Kent and NMH.

Hmmm. Does anyone know why it won't let me edit the above post?

Anyways.

I'm still going to look into Kent and NMH and pick one of those two as a safety, if I somehow manage to get my parents to let me apply to one more school. (My city has good academy programs, so they consider that a safety. Since I'm not applying to boarding school to go there, but to... go there? God, I really do NOT make sense.) And thanks sooo much everyone that helped! =]

you can expect NMH to get wayyy better in the next few years or so, but I still advocate kent :D :D
