Where will you apply......

hmm...im a cali kid, but i really have no preference on the geographical area where i end up

in order of preference:

USC (already applied), the UCs (cal's 1st choice as undeclared/pre business, then LA as undeclared/pre econ/business), cornell aem (my only other ivy), georgetown, northwestern, u of chicago econ, NYU stern (last only bc they give so lil financial aid x[)

then safeties

I'd like to hear those differences myself. neither one is right and both are valid!

I thought Colgate and Middlebury were comparable schools academically, but in thinking that Dartmouth was the ideal school, thought Colgate was more similar to it from a size, social and sports scene perspective, but should considered Middlebury more seriously.

I applied early to Dartmouth, was rejected and am now a student at Colgate. I HONESTLY believe that I am happier here at Colgate than I would have been at Dartmouth. I absolutely love the school and has everything I could have gotten at Dartmouth. In terms of jobs, the Colgate network is fabulous. I had an amazing, paid internship the summer after Freshman year because of a Colgate alum. Good luck on your Dartmouth decision, but know that it will work out and you might find out that you fit in better at a different school.

Location- it's far enough away, but more convenient than Colgate. I can get home easily if necessity dictates at Midd, but not Colgate. Also, I'd like to stay in VT.
Reputation- Though both have great reputations here, being a Middlebury alum will be more advantageous for networking purposes if I want to stay in this area.

I can see why you would think this as a VT resident and it could have some merit.

People- I have some friends at Midd already, and some of the Juniors I like will also probably end up here, whereas at Colgate, I know nobody.

I think that no matter what schools you are debating between that this should never be part of the decision making process. One of the main points of college to me is growing and meeting new people; so in your case would think this would be a knock against Middlebury and an advantage of Colgate.

Welllllll, now that this thread is becoming realityyyyyy,

I will be applying to Brown, Columbia, Amherst, Williams, Middlebury, Wesleyan, Bates, Bowdoin, Cornell-Human Ecology, Northwestern, Kenyon, Oberlin, and SUNY Binghamton.

Well I wouldn't say I should start some essays, but those supplements certainly need a look or two

Indeed.. and the good news is Dartmouth has given you two more days to get your applications together. Time for me to start ponying up a crap load of application fees! Ho ho ho!

Middlebury ED round II

Charlie.. that's it???????

I don't know.. Son likes Colgate a lot, but I think now he really wants to look at all the options he might have. However, based on all these rejections, we better come up a few more safeties - If those even exist anymore!

Modadunn, what exactly? Mid yr reports and final reports?

I was thinking supplements, essays and all the stuff S didn't want to really tackle until he heard. Finals are next week for him and SO FAR he is heading towards a perfect semester with 6 classes (4 AP). I am just so glad he wont have to send his SAT scores to most of these other schools. I really feel taking it three times (and the first was really horrid) along with tepid SAT II scores were kind of killers.

Plus. He has to turn in this sheets to the college counseling office for them to get all that transcript stuff ready and since D was first, he will be on the top of the pile vs other ED students. AND he got an appt with her for tomorrow as I really think he needs at least one or two more really likely to accept him.
