where will You be applying?

OrwellLarsson
I recently completed my A-Levels!
Grades: All A*s
SAT I - 2090 [Retaking it in december]
SAT II - Chem and Math 2 - 800, Phy - 760
ECs - I have a great community service background + have been actively involved in my school
Recommendations - They are great too!
Essay: Well I can’t judge it!

ED: University of Pennsylvania
EA: Colorado College, Dickinson, UNC Chapel Hill and Drexel
RD: Princeton, William, Amherst, Middlebury, Whitman and Hamilton are sure
There are a couple of safeties as well!

Post your stats guys and girls!

wow buddy, those are some amazing unis! by the way, Drexel has a full tuition scholarship, which used to be called Global Scholars Program last year. it requires separate essay. be sure to apply. the essay shouldn’t be a problem since it will be similar to other colleges’ supplementals. i guess you know about it, but still mentioned it in case you might have missed out.

at OrwellLarsson, yeah! I am applying for a full ride merit based award, its an outside scholarship! so I applied to UNC Chapel Hill

Yep! I have already sent in my application. Thank you for reminding me though!

wait, are you applying for Robertson Scholars program?

Yeah! Did you apply for it?

@rockzz
I would definitely say it’s not TOO late, but yeah it’s late! Coz, u have missed the ED 1 deadline of most colleges (Nov 1 or 15). But, do not panic! Most of the colleges have their ED 2 deadline and RD deadline on Jan 1 or 15, which implies you still have not missed the most important deadlines for fall 2014. So, you have approx. 1 month to prepare documents (essays, supplements, recommendations) by that deadline! So, rush for it, and ask your teachers to write the recommendations. And, yeah have you filled common app? If not, do it asap! Most LAC colleges with Jan 1 deadline meet 100% demonstrated need of internationals as well :)

Another thing, about the Standardized Testing scores, personally i do not categorize any score into good or bad! It really depends upon the colleges you are applying! A 1940 can be a pretty good score for the colleges with higher acceptance rates, and below 25th percentile for the one with lower acceptance rates! So, for now write awesome essays, ECAs, recomms and give a shot. Who knows which college will love you like hell  Still, take a look at the average SAT score of the colleges you are applying, and find out where you stand! It really helps!

And, I guess 2040 in SAT 2 is not that impressive ( coz many internationals applying have the scores in the range of 2300-2400), so better not to submit those scores to the colleges who do not need them! Not to forget, your 12th percentage is very impressive! Good luck!

Hi everyone!
Here are my stats:
SAT CR-790, Math-800, W-780 (single sitting and taken only once)
Subject Tests: Physics-800, Maths I-800, Maths II-800, Chem-770, Bio-800 (I am a bit weak in Chem)

SLC in Nepal: 91%
A-Levels in Bangladesh (My dad works there) : Phy-A,Chem-A,Bio-A, Maths-A, Further Maths-A, Econ-a (AS only), French-a (AS only)
Work experience- I worked as a junior programmer for Google India for 3 months.
I have designed websites for three schools in Bangladesh, 1 in Nepal. I have also made an inventory management application for 2 local stores. At the moment, I am designing android apps for fun.
I love to play Football and Basketball. I was in my high school basketball team in Bangladesh and was the team captain.
I have also worked as a research intern in Simulation and Robotics and published a paper.
I will be applying to the following colleges:

Princeton (Dream), Yale, UPenn,MIT,Caltech, Harvard, Stanford,UChicago,Duke,JHU,Dartmouth,Vanderbilt,Williams
Most probably my safeties would be Trinity, Colby, Colgate,Connecticut,Tufts and Lehigh.

Essay: Wrote about how google india transformed me.
Reco: Solid
Can anyone tell my what are my chances of getting into Princeton?? It has been my dream since I was in grade 7. :D

@feynman94

Wow … amazing …You are really impressive …

reading this just frustrates me :D

@Orwelllarsson how are your applications going on?

it’s going slowly. working on the essays and pestering teachers for the recommendations. How about you? You’ve already written your essays and all, right?

Applied to ED, so yeah! Quite nervous about the decision! I hope you get in!

So everybody on CC where are you applying? Please mention it here

I very much doubt the veracity of some of the posts (of stats) here. Although I’m not trying to offend anybody, and I know it’s possible to get very high test scores and garner impressive accolades and work experience, fenyman94’s stats are ridiculous and scream ■■■■■ (not to mention the newly-made account and how conveniently he mentions he studied in Bangladesh after some other guy says he studied in India–both sound like trolls to me, with feynman94 leading.) Without knowing for real whether they exist, there is no need to feel inferior or unqualified.

Also feynman94, I am fluent in French. Would you like to engage in an anonymous Skype conversation sometime? I rarely find someone in Nepal who can speak French.

@dude: I understand that it only seems logical to cast doubt on what people say on CC, and stats as such as have been stated could only add to your skepticism. But I personally know a few prospective applicants from Nepal with similar stats (>2300 SAT, abroad education, Physics/Math Olympiad medals, to name some), so I am not as inclined as you are to label the people in reference ■■■■■. (even if I was, i wouldn’t voice my doubts in so forthright a manner.)
And since you are already here, why not tell us which colleges you’ll be applying to and help us develop some camaraderie on CC Nepal? and if you’re not averse to it, you can throw in your stats as well.

Wishes,
OrwellLarsson of CC Nepal.

Yes, I know that such applicants from Nepal do exist. But what’s said on CC needs to be received with skepticism, but if I overstated my case, then that’s my bad.

I am not so sure about where I will apply in RD, but I applied ED to the University of Pennsylvania. ED 2 at Swarthmore. 2230 SAT (770 CR, 700 M, 760 W). 32 ACT, 10 essay (not sending anywhere). 770 Lit, 750 French without Listening. I’m in A2, but predicted A's in Sociology, Economics and English Literature, A in Chemistry and B in Mathematics. Transcript is nearly all A’s and A's. AS results are all a’s. EC’s are strong, if I say so myself. Recos are very, very strong (had the opportunity to read them).

However, I don’t need financial aid as a certain organization will fund 90% of the cost of attendance for me. So yeah, I am probably not in competition with the same pool because it is my understanding that those who need aid are usually considered separately in non-need-blind college admissions.

You guys have amazing stats. I’m not going to state my exact scores, because I don’t want my friends to recognize me; I’m just gonna give the score range.
SAT R: between 2150 and 2200
SAT 2s: M2 780-800, Physics 780-800
SLC: 85-90%
+2: 78-82%
Colleges: HPYMS, Swarthmore, Trinity C, Dartmouth, Amherst, WUSTL.
EFC: near to nil; will b needing a full ride.
Gender: M
Rec: no idea
Essays: working on them.
Achievements: excluding some intra-school competitions, nothing.
Intended major: not sure, probably English, or Physics, or Eco, or Engineering.
+2 school: won’t mention it for the sake of anonymity, but it’s within Kathmandu.

you sure are going to ivy leagues.
