Linens n Things is really good. Plus, they'll ship most of the stuff to a store for free, so you can ship it to the store nearest your school. And walmart has some really good rugs. Plus Target is always pretty good.

Walmart for school supplies and TV
Target for sheets and all other needed things
American Eagle, Abercrombie and Old Navy for clothes (My favorite part!)

Target is amazing. Flip flops were one the dollar rack and then marked 75% down. Can't beat 25 cent shoes! Plus they're actually rather comfy. I'm also planning on getting organizers (for clothes, my desk, etc) there. Bed Bath and Beyond has linens and shower caddies and other random things that are fun to have. Marshalls had sheets as well, and very affordable but cute towels and such. For clothes, I'll probably just bring what I already have. I'm staying in California (although I'll be going from NorCal to SoCal) so the climate will stay generally the same.

I got linens and towels and stuff like that at Linen's and Things, shampoo, face wash, etc at Target, and random stuff at the dollar store. Probably end up getting the rest at Kmart once i get to school.

I'm not doing much back-to-school shopping.

Didn't need towels (have enough in the house that they won't miss a few), bought sheets and this sweet chair thing at Linen's and Things. Got a tree lamp and some typical school supplies at Staples, and I bought for steno notebooks at my high school's school store (I like college-rule with the spiral at the top, and that's was the best place to get them).

im doing the exact same thing as tjlax25. im also flying to south bend so all ill bring is a few luggages full of my clothes and essential toiletries plus my laptop and a few other random things. then ill end up going to the walmart/target/best buy/mall there and picking up the random things i dont have.

heh...I generally think people do a lot less wardrobe back-to-school shopping for college than in elementary/middle/high school. Probably a combination of the fact that we're not growing as much and because we're broke college kids now. (that said, I love to shop and I would love to have the back to school shopping tradition again. But now I just shop throughout the year during sales...)

I was given a bunch of 'essentials' throughout the last 6 months - christmas, bday, and graduation = the accumulation of sheet sets, my laptop/printer, a mini-fridge, a comforter, and random things such as shower supplies. I am responsible for buying everything else, except printer ink, laptop lock, and ethernet cable. I still need things like advil, a rug, visine, poster putty, dorm decorations, etc.

This is crazy but my son wanted to buy an inexpensive travel soap container and a travel toothbush container for college. He went to Walmart, Linens-n-Things, and Kmart and they were all out!~
(Target and BBB are 1 hr away)
He is shopping pretty much on his own going for 'small shops' as he puts it every few days.
Has anyone purchased the power strips with longer cords? The ones he has seen are pretty short. His dorm will not allow extension cords.
On Monday night, his college is hosting a chat for incoming freshman to ask about dorms etc. Hopefully he'll get some questions answered.
His room is getting pretty filled with bags of stuff for college!
Is anyone taking some sort of a 'dolly' (like a uhaul mover on 2 wheels) to make it easier to move in all the boxes?

For any room stuff I will actually need, probably Target. Clothes, I will wait until I get up there. I am going to need all new jeans, as mine are crappy and falling apart. I'll probably hit up Marshall Field's, Nordstrom, Nordstrom's Rack, and the Chicago Premium Outlets (Polo and Diesel stores!)

I have to pay for most everything, though my parents bought me a lamp, sheets, a hamper, and shampoo. Unfortunately, though, I also have to pay for all my own tuition...
