Where would I be able to transfer to?

Hey guys,

Long story short what sort of schools could I consider transferring to if I have a 3.6 GPA and a 35 ACT? Obviously there are so many more factors involved, but just based on these two would a school like Cornell be even realistically possible - or should I aim for schools like NYU and UMich.?

I’m looking for schools with strong business or economics programs (preferably the latter) and have good recruitment around CA/NY

All those schools are certainly a possibility. Your college GPA is probably more important than your ACT scores though.

Understandably so. I’m seriously considering transferring because my current school is an incredible party school (which I love) but I feel like it may be time to start thinking about my future. My school has a top 10 business school but everything else is mostly underfunded, and I’m more interested in Economics/Math which my school is extremely lacking in.

If I could go anywhere I want, it’ll probably be a school that has both incredible academics and social scene. Schools like U. Penn (non-Wharton) and Stanford come to mind - I think I’m a pretty bright kid but just the amount of students actually getting accepted into one of these schools is almost laughable.

If I were to apply to schools like:

-Duke
-Cornell (not AEM)
-Northwestern
-U. Chicago (legendary Econ program)
-UC Berkeley
-Columbia

Would I even have a chance realistic enough to justify the $100 application fee and/or time spent? I definitely don’t mind throwing an app for the hell of it at a small chance, but I’d like to build a realistic list at least. If you guys have any insights or schools I should look into, please let me know!

I honestly can’t speak on any of the other schools except Cornell. I am a nontraditional student who was able to get accepted into Cornell out of community college. I had a 4.0 gpa and I was going to enroll in the ILR school. That might be potentially the reason why I got in because I have heard that Cornell’s acceptance rates for the ILR school tend to be a little higher than the other schools/colleges at Cornell. I’m from North Carolina so I am not too sure about Duke. I just know that it is extremely hard to get into that school as a transfer. Like you, I am in the same boat; except for me this is round two. I would definitely give Cornell a shot because there’s always that chance. Especially if you write an awesome essay along with some great extracurricular’s. You don’t know until you try; I’m definitely going to give it a shot and see what unfolds. Current gpa 3.79.
