Where would it get me if...

I'm just wondering. If you have a passion for writing and eventually publish a novel/book of poems, what effect would that have on admission to prestigious colleges (not just the Ivy League)? Also, if you gradually became good at guitar and started recording your own tracks (sort of like an indie act. Great voice also and parents are getting me lessons next year when Dad gets a job) and got your songs published, where would that get you? Kind of childish, I know, but guitar is just a new interest of mine and I get better and better. Yes, you're talking to a freshman, but she's just curious.

Well, thats really depends.

If your book is published by a real publisher, aka not one of those you pay-and-we-print-thingy, then your resume will definitely be enhanced by quite a bit.

As for tracks, I dont think that has too much of an impact. I know plenty of friends who have their own music album recorded and are selling their CDs as part of their music band...

Hope that helps.

Thank you!
