Where would you apply if you were me?

Hi everyone,

I've already applied to a number of colleges, but I'm still wondering on whether or not I should apply to some others. I've had a few in mind but don't know if it's worth the time and money. So my question is: if you had my stats, where would you apply? I appreciate any advice and suggestions.

SAT: 2160 (640 CR, 760 M, 760 W)
SAT subject tests: 740 US history (and waiting on math level 2, which I think I got 750+)

GPA: 4.00 CUM
Rank: 1/267
APs: three 5s (world history, latin vergil, envi sci) and four 4s (us history, chemistry, human geography, english language and composition)
Senior Courseload: 6 APs, 1 honors (have all A+s now)

Important extracirriculars: Boy scouts, tutoring (latin, math, SAT), NHS, MHS, ambassador, french club, school religious organization, campus ministry, rec baseball, museums club, membership at gun range, intramurals

Leadership/award stuff: Eagle scout, good amount of other scouting awards, service volunteer awards, NHS president, French club vice president and scribe, AP scholar with distinction, national merit commended scholar

Recs: I think that my teacher and guidance councilor ones are pretty solid if not outstanding

College major: math, statistics, and/or something business related (depends on the school)

You need to give us some preferences like size, financial requirements, location …

With your stats I would apply to the top undergraduate business schools- where do you live? because proximity to some colleges increases chances there. I’d say Cornell, Miami, Washington, Penn, Emory, Boston College, etc. When it comes down to it you can get in to a lot of great schools, it depends on your personal preferences and costs.

shoot for the top 30 US news ranked schools then like weed out the ones that are the best in what you want to major in and then apply to those.

I live in NJ, so I would consider anything up in the northeast area and down around DC for sure. Size isn’t too big a deal, but I would probably prefer something on the smaller side. Financially, I’m banking on getting aid because I can’t pay 60K or near that per year.

Have u considered Kelley business school at IU. They provide great merit aid

You could shoot for Cornell and possibly Columbia if you SATs were higher. Rank 1? That’s special, but you need stronger SATs.

Your SAT may be a teeny bit low for Cornell and Columbia but you definitely have a fair chance nonetheless. Try for Cornell, Columbia, Duke, Tufts, and the higher UC’s such as UCSD, UCLA, and UC Berkeley if you can

For math and stats, I would suggest the following Reaches: Harvey Mudd, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon; Matches: Case Western, Georgia Tech, RPI, Reed, Oberlin, Berkeley (if OOS); and Safeties: Purdue, Rose Hulman.

REACH: Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Brown, Duke, MIT
MID-REACH: Berkeley, CMU, UCLA, Harvey Mudd
SAFETIES: Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, Rose Hulman
