As far as i know...........trans_int007 is right........being an international able to pay full makes u "wanted" in most of the state universities.......and your sat score is also in their range (2000+ is good)........I think u have good chances at UVa and university of Michigan and others as well...BU is a sure shot since u r paying full

Cornell aint easy, i've got an international friend who paid full, got into UPenn engineering, Carnegie Mellon engineering but got rejected at Cornell Engineering.. his SAT was 30 pts higher than yours

im not applyin to BU though. im applyin to Boston College which is different and a soo much better university.....
and seriously...getting into anyone of the unis just spoken about would be a dream come true for me...
( and i got a 2050 if you superscore...so i hope its better..)

grrr... I wish I didnt need FA. I get a score 120 points higher than him in real blue book practice tests.

Anyways, I guess with some luck, a 2050 might be enough for UVA, UMich, but the rest... I dunno

i;m not inflating anything. i;m sorry if i come off pompous, but i know most about how the admission works over here. internationals are hugely attractive feauture of a campus, as it is a basis for ranking, as well it fosters diversity and promotes learning in a different stance.....
If you can pay, its a bonus for the colleges, as they are themselves seeking to enroll internationals.
Stats:
lower SAT percentiles:
cornell-630-verbal, 660-maths
dartmouth-670 verbal, 680-maths
brown-670 verbal, 680 maths
U mich-580 verbal, 630 maths
UVa-600 verbal, 620 maths
NYU-620 each...
USC-630 verbal, 650 maths
UC-berkely-580 verbal, 620 maths
UCLA-570 verbal, 610 maths

look his SAT is also decent. it places in the 25th percentile or above, even if its below, its not by much. hence, he is a capable student, and being an international, and being able to afford the education places in a very non-competitive pool. the colleges would be more than happy to have him as he is not only a capable student but is an international who can foster much needed diversity, and provide the college, and classrooms with alternative viewpoints....
just my two cents, if you think otherwise, its ok....

by lower SAT percentiles, i mean the 25th percentile, i.e. 25% of the enrolled undergrad have a SAT of that score or below....

Internationals are attractive.. but coming from India isn't (NOT RACISM HERE!).. I know lots who come from India apply for aid and the OP can pay full.. but still there are many Indians who can pay full.. While being an international could be advantageous.. it all depends on where he/she's from.. For example there are two applicants who are of exactly similar stats, and both can pay full.. Let's say one is from India, one's from Togo.. You should know who'll get in

And I believe the lower SAT 25th percentile at the most prestigious state unis (Berkeley) is reserved for those in state students, not us.. As for Mich, I think they're very lenient (a 1700+ international got in, she's not spectacular at all, a good student who maintains A average, one/two national awards which isn't significant for a small country).. I dunno about others tho

Yeah being from India is really gonna hurt me....i knew that from the beginning.

Based simply off SAT (2010) and the fact you're an internal, and assuming you have strong recs/GPA/EC's/ Essays, I would guess:

Duke University(reach)
Johns Hopkins University(econ) (high match)
New York University(econ) (match)
U Mchigan Ann Arbor(econ) (low reach/high match)
U Virgina (reach)
Georgetown University (reach)
Emory University (reach)
Boston College (low-ish reach)
Berkeley/UCLA (reach)

^How can JHU be a match when BC, Emory are reaches? JHU is more popular than the other two

There are lot of Indians who can pay but not all the paying Indian have his SATs...............They are simply good............In Aggregate his score must be about 85 percentile among all test taker.............So being an Indian may also be a secondary thing..................You have a very good chances in all of them ......

that doesnt make sense...how can NYU be a match but Emory and Boston College be reaches....i thought NYU was much harder to get in than most unis in my list...
btw the econ program at NYU is within the stren school of business

megaadi...overall i have a 93 percentile...

You see..........That is good and what is your cr+math composite score??
UVa and Umich are easy for you..

^^^ You are severely overinflating his chances. A 2010 is not high for good state schools like uva and umich, and OP is Indian so he comes from an English speaking country and will not be given an excuse for lower scores.

You see..........That is good and what is your cr+math composite score??
UVa and Umich are easy for you..Moreover u have good grades and fair array of ECA(although eca dont matter in state universities)

Are you doing Econs at Stern or Arts and sciences.. i think that's a huge difference

i applied for econ at stern actually..

my scores are as follows.
CR 680
Math 670
Writing 660 ( or 700 if you superscore )

and yes magaadi you are really overinflating my chances....i guess i stand a good/decent shot at UVa and UMich but theres no way anyone can say that they are easy to get into because they are state schools...
What im really interested in are Emory, USC and georgetown...

when he has the potential to be accepted at top schools, even ivies, why are you ppl deprecating his value. let him apply, and we will all see the results. applying to any school won't hurt. if you believe that finances are nothing compared to SAT, why do schools like Franklin and Marshall reject candidates that are potential ivy league material???
finances are a huge deal in the us collegiate system. if an international can pay full, he is bound to end up at a good school, implying he is not a severe slacker. schools like macalester and colgate used to email me that if i am able to pay full, then i would be put in a highly non competitive pool....and there are not many indians who can pay 50 k a year for a college education, btw....

lets take umich for example, his cr score is in the 75th percentile, meaning only 25% of the total undergrads, among all 25,000, have a cr score better than his. his maths score is in the 60th percentile for ann arbor.
for uva, both of his scores are around 60-70 percentile. and his sat is in the 93 percentile among indians. and he is willing to pay full tuition, room, and board.plus he has decent grades, ecs, recos and essays????why wouldn't these colleges want to accept him???
