Hey guys. I'm going into my senior year and I'm in kind of a weird predicament. I'm trying to come up with a list of colleges to apply to next year but my stats are all over the place... can you guys help me out?

GPA: 3.5~ (subject to change, since senior grades are factored in at my school.)
Test Scores: 2400 SAT (800M/800CR/800W) 34 ACT (35M/35E) 230 PSAT (so basically guaranteed national merit semi)
800MII, 800USH, 800CHEM. Plan on taking physics, biology and literature in October.
School: Competitive Public
APs taken: US History, Language, Calculus BC, Environmental Science, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Psychology
APs in senior year: World history, Biology, Physics, Literature, US/Comparative Government
ECs: the usual, tutoring, volunteering, religious organization, debate/speech, etc.

So essentially mediocre/bad gpa (mainly due to bad sophomore year), very good test scores (should I send in the act or just sat?) and a fairly tough courseload. What schools would you apply to with these stats? Right now I'm looking at NYU, Boston university, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Reed, and Northwestern (I know these are all reaches, especially NU!). Thanks.

Congrats on your achievements. The schools you list are very different. You should spend time looking over their brochures/websites and get a feel of if you can envision yourself there. Also which can you afford?

Make an appt with your school guidance counselor in the Fall. Good luck.

I think you have a really good chance at all of those colleges, especially with a pefect SAT score and three perfect SAT II scores. I would definitely send in the SAT score.

Also, this is just me personally, but I don’t think you should waste time taking three more SAT subject tests this October. Focus on your applications. You already have three perfect scores and most require only two scores anyways. Just a suggestion …

I think you have a good shot at the schools you listed. (Of course, it also depends on the rest of your application).

I would also advise against taking more SAT IIs. Most schools merely take the highest scores of the number of tests they actually require. (I took six SAT IIs and it was a waste of time and money X__X).

Also, it wouldn’t hurt for you to apply to higher reaches. (HYPSM, other Ivies, Duke, JHU, and the like…) You never know what may happen!

You’re a perfect example of a student who can crack some Ivies, even HYPSM, but not Berkeley.

I think you should go for the school of your choice. You have a good shot even at Northwestern. Top privates love applicants with impressive SAT scores.
