I don’t think you’ll find a department that Harvard is ranked 30th it’s just not going to happen.

I have chosen Vandy (w/ full tuition) over Duke

Pomona over Duke easily… Can’t stand crazy jock/ drinking/ party culture in Duke.

Jock driven? yea if you hang with that crowd- My S does not and there are a lot of different crowds at Duke- if you want something at a school ou can find it. As far as rankings above was an example - take a look at law Schools LLM programs - Univ. of Fla. is #1 or 2 in the country either tied or just behind NYU, over Harvard, Yale etc. Every school has areas that they try to excel in and I was trying to give an example. There is a web site with rankings of Departments and the list may surprise people- but it is still a ranking. Harvard wins so many rankings because it has an incredible endowment and can hire the best profs in the world. But- most kids who go there complain they never see those profs undergrad because they are too busy researching. Harvard all but admitted this a few years ago and was working on it. I don’t mean to denegrate Harvard which is clearly one of the best, if not the best in the world- but it too has its flaws. I have heard this from students that attend, some love it and others felt that fit was actually better elsewhere but the uber presteige factor too great to pass up. In the end you want to be happy and go where ever a student feel best fits who that are and what they want to become.
