where would you go?

@Tsenguun:
You have great memory. I posted that stupid chance thread more that three months ago. And you have remembered me quite well.

I asked for heavy financial aid (any expenses in excess of 7k) and perhaps that the reason I was rejected at various colleges I applied to.

Pretty disappointing results. I think my essay was not so great and I had no ECs being home-schooled. I hope I can transfer to some other college next year.

Well thanks for your concern .

@ OP I think you really should go Emory, because you really have no idea how cold it gets up north in the Midwest. Being so far away from the sea makes temperature even more extreme because of the lack of sea breeze that regulates temperature extremities ( geography =) sorry, not showing off). I actually have a girl friend in Duke U whose grades drop every winter because her body does not adapt very well to it (and Duke is in North Carolina!) So never underestimate the cold. Secondly, I’d say there is always some amount of cliquishness everywhere you go in life and I am sure it will teach you how to handle these kind of people - which can be useful in work life and that is assuming these “cliquishness” only exist when you’re not much of a social person. I mean its actually very fun to mix with people who are attuned you even though outsiders might think of it as too cliquish. Thirdly, is the money factor. i mean, it may not look like it in one year, but 4 years, thats the money that would get you a car! Fourthly on the prestige grounds, Emory is on THES top 100 and it could be an advantage if you’re looking at international job markets since Carleton is very good, but not many outside America knows about it. I even have a friend who went there and had nothing but praises for the faculty. But at the end of the day this is just my IMHO, its really your choice, I do hope you research more before deciding.

Undergrad won’t really matter for jobs though since I’m sure everyone is planning to complete grad school asap too.

I’m sure Carleton would easily be in the top 50 if LAC’s were ranked with universities.

@unregistered: I received need-based aid only. However, I did not wish to ask Amherst or Williams for more money, because as I said before, it just made my choice easier. Without chance to visit any of these colleges I really couldn’t know where I would feel happier and today I am very glad to say I accepted Grinnell’s offer. :)

Congrats, Shreya! :)

Great job! :)
