where would you rather go

Unless you're SURE you want Cornell why not switch to RD and keep your options open?

I actually had that same predicament a month ago, and from extensive research and visiting, I am leaning heavily towards Chicago. I just got honest with myself and realized the only reason I wanted to go there was because it was "ivy league." Cornell is the easy ivy, or at least one of the easy ivies, any way you twist it.

Chicago has a strong reputation, but won't serve to impress random people the way Cornell would.

People that matter though are more impressed w/ Chicago.

U Chicago, that's my #1 choice. I'm also an econ major and they BLOW away any other school, besides maybe Harvard. I should tell you I'm from Chicago, but I'm also considering Cornell. Actually, for me, a downside of UChicago is that it is actually in my hometown, I kinda wanted to go away for college.

UChicago is kinda in a bad neighborhood, south side of Chi-city. Visit both, and also look more specifically with what you're interested in, mainly your major. You'll have plenty of time to decide, don't sweat it. Just be glad that either way you're going to an amazing school.

Cornell.

(Better linguistics department, non-monster core.)

I personally prefer Cornell. UChicago is just not in a good neighborhood and they emphasize a lot of the things I do not care about all that much (Core Curriculum...).

please dont make your decision based on a message board. one poster pointed out that ithaca has far fewer people than chicago - obviously, since chicago is a city and ithaca is so rural...however, cornell has the larger student body.

did you visit both schools?? it really depends on what atmosphere you want.
after visiting chicago i decided i didnt like it, the student population seemed overall kind of quirky, nerdy kids who live in their dorms and study...cornellians seemed much more friendly. no wonder people say chicago "is where the fun goes to die"
