So, I'm interning with a Cognitive Science professor. This is year-long and for credit ("Intern/Mentorship" is a course offered by my county.) Because it's a year-long project, I will not have carried out most of the actual research by the time I submit my apps. However, I don't want colleges to think that I'm not doing anything -- I'm really excited about the experiment I'm going to be doing, and I want to tell colleges about it. As of right now, I have a clear idea of what I'm going to be doing and when, and I could easily summarize it in about a page (including background information on the topic.)

I already have an "Additional Info" section uploaded to my CommonApp that is two pages. The first section has a brief explanation of each of my ECs, and the second is a list of awards that I didn't have room to include on my CommonApp form (nothing impressive, but I wanted to mention everything I had, lol.) For some reason, I feel like it would be sort of... cluttered and unneat... to add another page of that document dedicated to explaining what I've done / am doing / am going to do for my research project.

Also, the Intern/Mentorship teacher wrote up a letter describing the program, which she recommended sending to our schools. I thinkkk that we were supposed to send them with our transcripts, but those of us who turned in our transcript requests early didn't have a chance to do so. Sooo I'm thinking about just mailing the letter to each of my schools with a one-page description of what I'm doing. Or would that be, like, annoying and unnecessary? :/

Would colleges rather receive an abbreviated, 150-word description of my project or take the time to read about a page-long description of it? o__O

I mean, I haven't started my actual testing, but I've done a lot with my mentor... and a ton of research (er, the other kind of research) of the topic, which I could write about for HOURS... but okay, point taken.

I have an internship, and my guidance and college counselors are telling everyone to put it down in the Employment section (of the Common App, for instance), and where it asks for a title/description, you put "Intern" -- basically, just make it clear it was an internship.

If it's non-common-app, look for an Employment/Internship section? (assuming you didn't submit your application yet -- you only sent transcripts, correct?)

EDIT: Oh! That kind of project! Yeah, an abstract like that sounds fine!!

^ My internship is also unpaid! Though, it technically is employment -- just with no pay. It really is what all the counselors at my school are telling their kids to do.

EDIT:

Oh my bad -- we get credits.

So in exchange for work, we get credits?

You? You might not :/ idk what your situation is,

so... just ignore me and what I said earlier.... lol yeahh :)
