Where!?!

I would much prefer a coed school. Do you think I have good chances for Milton

Sent from my PB99400 using CC App

You have a really good chance for Milton! Here is my “upgraded” list of schools you should look into (in addition to the schools you are familiar with because of you family):

Deerfield (Fits EVERYTHING you asked for)
Hotchkiss (Secluded, but very pretty)
St. Andrews (Not as big as some of the “prestigious” schools)
Middlesex
Groton

As far as the “chance-me”, I suggest you work on community service. More importantly, do whatever you have a passion for. I know a girl who did competitive gymnastics for 9 years of her life (she’s 13) and recently quit. I asked her why, and she told me that you can’t do something that you hate. She’s won 100’s of medals, and could have made it to the Olympics. She said her dad pushed her to much, she was going to practice 20 hours a week. She almost started crying, she had no passion for gymnastics. No matter how great you end up at something, make sure you enjoy doing it first.

I agree that you should check Deerfield out. Middlesex and Milton are also wonderful schools. Had I been allowed to apply to more than two schools, I probably would’ve applied to Middlesex and Deerfield.

There’s no magic formula to getting into a school. You don’t need to be a varsity athlete, you don’t need a 100 average. You just need passion and commitment, along with the confidence that you will try your best at whatever school you go to.

Good luck!!

Congrats on being accepted to Andover cassat! Good luck and enjoy your time there!

Thanks so much! It was a huge surprise, not going to lie.
I hope I’ll like it! (:

Congrats on andover! Do you know what hooks are good? I’m just trying to figure out if I have a good hook or not…? Also, how is st Georges school? I have sooooo many family members who went there. Also, if I have/had family members at a school does that give me more of a chance? Thanks!

Also, I want a preppy school. I am not sure if that changes anything…? Also. Do you think I should participate in more EC’S? Or take up an instrument? If so, then what?

Thank you!! (:

Being a legacy may not increase your chances exponentially, but it WILL make some difference. I don’t really know TOO much about St. George’s, sorry! I’ve heard it’s a good school, though. There aren’t too many respected boarding schools that you can go wrong with, you just need to find what’s best for you.

If you want a preppy school, look at Brooks. I believe it’s pretty small, and it’s very close to Andover in proximity. Deerfield is also pretty preppy, and I believe Choate Rosemary Hall is preppy to a degree, but that school has 800+ students.

Taking up an instrument with only about a year until admissions wouldn’t necessarily work to your benefit, I don’t think. If you want to, go for it! I’ve only been playing guitar for a year. But never do something JUST for admissions–do it because you love it! Work on some sort of community service, or join a few clubs that you might be interested in. Yes, boarding schools look for commitment, but you don’t need to be the best at everything. I basically said I was extremely indecisive, both in my essays and in my interview, but I still got into Andover!

Also, try getting in touch with some of the faculty. I always love sending those e-mails and forming a correspondence, because it shows them that you care, and you’re really interested in their school!

Simply; Quality, not Quantity.

Thank you very much cassat! Is deerfield equivalent to Andover and Exeter? Also, how is Middlesex? (for me) My chances?

No problem!

Well, typically on CC you’ll see the acronym HADES, which stands for Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, and St. Paul’s. They’re usually agreed upon as the Top Tier boarding schools. Some say that Groton, Middlesex, and Choate belong there as well. I think Deerfield is definitely in the same class as Andover and Exeter.

I think if you show your love of the school, and if you continue to get good grades and a decent SSAT score, I’m sure your chances are good!

Okay! Thank you so much! I have always wondered what “HADES” stands for! When schools are rivals does it mean that they are all in the same tier? How’s brooks academically? How’s Groton? Do you think I could potentially be accepted, how big/small are my chances? How’s Loomis Chaffee?

I’m not very experienced with “chancing” people, but I can answer your question about the HADES acronym. It stands for Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter and St. Pauls. However, there are other schools such as Groton, Lawrenceville, Middlesex, Milton, etc., that can be included with this group of schools. Another acronym that covers more top tiered schools is GLADCHEMMS. I’m pretty sure this stands for: Groton, Lawrenceville, Andover, Deerfield, Choate Rosemary Hall, Hotchkiss, Exeter, Milton, Middlesex and St. Pauls.

All of these schools are great :)

Hmm… As for the rivals, I’m not exactly sure. Deerfield and Choate are usually considered on par, maybe Deerfield a bit more respected, I’m not sure. I know Andover and Exeter are definitely in the same tier.

Brooks is good academically, as are most boarding schools, but I’m not sure how challenging it is. Check out its website, I’m sure you’ll be able to get a feel for it.

Groton, I’ve heard, is quite challenging. It’s a very respected school that has an extensive list of notable alumni. It’s also very small, with only around 370 students spread across 5 grades.

Sorry, I don’t know anything at all about Loomis! I only applied to 2 schools, so my knowledge is limited.

So do you think brooks would be a safety? And Milton?

Sent from my PB99400 using CC App

It’s impossible to determine what could be a safety. For me, I thought I would be a great match for Choate, but I ended up getting waitlisted.

Thanks! I really hope I find a good school for me…

There’s a school for everyone. (: Just as Andover is mine, you’ll find one that is the best fit for you!

Thanks so much! I just came across Loomis Chaffee. Is this a good school? How selective is it?

The acceptance rate for Loomis Chaffee is around 30%. You have alot of questions about just discovering boardings schools, so if you haven’t already, please check out Boarding School Review:
[Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/)

You can search schools by your criteria or find out more by the name of the school. This will give you a good basic idea of the schools out there. Hopefully you weren’t bothered by my posts, but I just wanted to help. Good Luck
