Where?!

Hello, I am going to be a freshman at my local public schools this fall. I am applying for private schools to be a new sophomore. I am a white girl from a small town on the coast of maine. I am an honors student, i ski race, play lacrosse, and sail very competitively. I am here asking for ideas for schools. I want to stay in new england. Sailing is my biggest thing, and then skiing. Could you please help or suggest schools for me to look at? Thanks!

I know that St. Georges in Rhode Island has a sailing team, I’m not sure about skiing though.

Also, Tabor Academy in Marion, MA.

St. George’s has a really great sailing program. According to BSR ([Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com)), here are some “well-known” boarding schools that offer sailing:

-Concord Academy [Concord Academy](http://www.concordacademy.org/)
-Culver Academies [Culver Academies](http://home.culver.org/)
-The Hotchkiss School [The Hotchkiss School - Home](http://www.hotchkiss.org/)
-Milton Academy [Milton Academy : Homepage](http://www.milton.edu/)
-Portsmouth Abbey School [Portsmouth Abbey School](http://www.portsmouthabbey.org/)
-St. George’s School [ST. GEORGE’S](http://www.stgeorges.edu/)
-Salisbury School [Salisbury School -> Home/url
-Stevenson School [url=<a href=“http://www.stevensonschool.org/]Stevenson”>http://www.stevensonschool.org/]Stevenson School | Exceptional Private Day and Boarding School on the Monterey, CA Peninsula](http://www.salisburyschool.org/)
-Tabor Academy [Browser Not Supported](http://www.taboracademy.org/)

Here’s the link to the BSR page on schools that offer sailing: [Search Boarding Schools](<a href=“Boarding School Search Results”>Boarding School Search Results)

Good luck.

Thank you! both of my parents and all of my aunts and uncles attended St. George’s. Does that increase my chances on getting in? Also, what is their acceptance rate? Is tabor good academically compared to St. George’s? Concord Academy? How’s that?

Your “legacy” status probably will help you. St. George’s acceptance rate is 28%. Tabor is probably a little worse in terms of academics compared to St. George’s, while St. George’s and Concord are on par with each other.

Also, keep in mind that SG has a significantly higher percentage of students who board than Concord or Tabor. Those rates are 85, 41, and 68, respectively.

Thank you very much! how about milton academy? how is their sailing team? and their acceptance rate?

Milton has a co-ed sailing team in the spring. Milton’s sailing team participates in various meets, tournaments, and invitationals. The acceptance rate for Milton is (by BSR) 24%.

could someone tell me the school with the best sailing team, the best school academically, and then the school that is most balanced?

Also, do any of these schools have like any sailing programs in the fall? Like a pickup kind of thing?

I expect at those 3 on the SE coast–St. George’s, Portsmouth Abbey, & Tabor, you can sail year round.
