Im debating on whether or not to take the SATs this saturday because I have a feeling that I will do better in October. I am the valedictorian of my class and i intend to apply to harvard, columba, stanford, brown, etc...

Hypothetically Suppose I know I will increase my score by 200 points over the summer because I will study like crazy. Would it be better to wait and take it In october or to take it now and in october?

The way I see it is suppose two applications had all the same statistics except one student took the SAT twice scoring 2000 and then 2300, and another student taking the SAT once and scoring 2300.

Obviously the Second kid will get in.

I know Harvard uses score choice, but the rest dont, so i want to make sure that i dont ruin my chances by getting like a 2000 sat score now. I know that by october i can raise it to 2200.

My opinion is that you should take it now so that if anything should happen, you’d have at least some scores to send. (I know I guess that doesn’t make much sense, since there really shouldn’t be any reason you wouldn’t be able to take them in the fall.)

If you haven’t taken any subject tests, that would take away from the amount of test dates you have left.

Were you planning on just doing a walk-in registration? In any case, I think that you should take it this Saturday, but I would wait for more feedback and advice.

I have already completed all my Subject Tests so that will not be an issue. Also I am already scheduled to take the SAT tomorrow: Saturday. I don’t know if I should, if I know that I will do better in October.

I would take it tomorrow. If you feel like you didn’t do as well as you would have liked, you can always cancel your scores, and going through the test-day routine will have been a good experience for when you take it in the fall. If you do better than you are expecting and get your 2200, that certainly isn’t going to hurt you at the Ivies, even if you do choose to retake it.

If you haven’t taken one yet, definitely take it tomorrow (unless you are somehow positively sure that you will do well in October). Relying on the October test date alone will put a lot more pressure on you, and there is no guarantee that you will do as well on an actual SAT as you might have done on the practices. Like others said, take it once so you at least have a SAT score on hand.

I don’t think it’s that straightforward. Obtaining a good score on one attempt may not give you that much tangible benefit, as most applicants do take the SAT more than one time.
