I have to choose two schools in which I am interested for the National Merith Scholarsip. Should I put my two dream schools (Princeton and NWestern), neither of which I have visited? Or should I put schools slightly further down the list (but not much further down, like G'town and UVa)...or does the school choice really not matter?

It depends on your financial need. A lot of upper-tier schools don’t offer much in the way of NM money. If you are looking to get $$$'s for your Finalist status then find a public uni that offers full rides to NMF’s. The concensus seems to be the college you put down as your #1 choice seems to be the one to focus on.

Does Georgia Tech offer full tuition for National Merit Finalists from any state???

2-iron - at this phase of the game it makes little difference who you name as two schools that you are interested in. Your top 2 choices don’t participate in the NM program, and I don’t think that Gtown or UVA do either. What the post card thing does is let those schools know that you scored well on the PSAT and are interested in them. You can do that with lots of schools in other ways. Don’t worry about this.

Northwestern does participate in the NM program. However, this 2 choices is really not that important. This is just to indicate that you are interested in those schools. It has nothing to do with the NM Scholarship. If you make National Merit Finalist, then the decision you make to name a 1st choice school in April of your senior year will be very important. There were many past posts regarding this subject. You might want to do a search to find those posts.
