Which ACT Score do I send for Engineering major?

Hello,

I am currently applying to college, and I have to decide which of my two ACT scores to send to schools that only take one. On my 33 composite, my math is at a 30. However, on my 32 composite, my math is a 34. I am planning on majoring in engineering, and I’ve heard that math is the most heavily viewed section for test scores at tier 1 schools (for engineers.) Do you think sending in the lower composite with the higher math section score would serve me better? I’d appreciate any input on the subject.

Send them both. It’s possible some of the schools on your list will super score.

What are all the subscores? Yes, the higher math score matters for engineeing, but they all do.

I’m guessing you mean self reporting on the app? You can still send all scores for Stanford (you posted in the S forum.) “For the ACT, we will review all subscores and focus on the highest Composite from all sittings.”.

But you should know the middle 50% as of July, for the current S freshman class. Is 32-35. That means you’re roughly in the middle, not near the top quartile.

@college1654 You’ve already got a thread with a couple of replies on this exact question http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/2099243-which-act-score-do-i-send-for-engineering-major.html#latest

Yes, I realized that I had uploaded it on the Stanford forum instead of the testing forum.

If you are only sending one, I would send the 32 composite and 34 math (that’s a great math score!).

Provide both. You should note with Stanfoird’s new application rules that you self-report your highest composite and then your highest section scores, meaning you can report section scores that come from tests other than the one with the highest composite. Why? Because Stanford uses the highest composite to determine admission but its colleges may also consider particular higher section scores from another test, e,g, engineering will consider a higher math score from a second test.

Stanford’s engineering college is not alone in using the highest composite to determine admission while also considering a higher math score from a second test. UIUC’s engineering college does the same. There are undoubtedly others, so you should seriously consider providing the scores from both tests.
