I’m a sophomore majoring in biochemistry. I have applied some top colleges, such as Cornell, Northwestern, Rice and Wellesley, that require me to send ACT scores. I got an overall 25 (English 21 Math 29 Reading 24 Science 25) when I was in high school. I took the ACT again in college and got 24 (English 22 Math 33 Reading 17 Science 24). I think sending the 25 is better, but I got much higher score in Math for the second test. It may helps a little since I am a science major. Which one do you think that I should send?
I know my ACT score is very low for top schools, but I have high college GPA. As those are very selective colleges, many applicants would have very high GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Do I still have a chance?
Some colleges allow you to “superscore” and take the highest combination.
If you’re a traditional student (i.e. 18-22) and a sophomore, then they will probably still give some weight to your test scores and high school record. However, if you have a 4.0 or near-perfect grades in college, you may still have a shot.
Make sure your colleges would even accept the ACT taken while in college. A lot of times, they do not allow you to do that since it is a standardized test for high school students.
^ I don’t know what the previous poster is talking about. I had to send ACT scores to a lot of the schools I applied to for transfer.
OP stated that he retook the ACT while a student in college. A lot of times, colleges do not accept these scores because they were not taken while in HS.
Still not sure what you’re talking about. I re-took the ACT Dec of 2016, and I graduated high school in 2011. Every school accepted my Dec 16 ACT score. Do you have any universities that say that on their website?
I was informed of this on a forum I created quite a while back by a number of others. He needs to make sure his school accepts these scores.
Only WUSTL’s website states that they don’t accept standard tests taken during college.
Huh, that’s the first school I’ve looked at where I’ve seen that :0
"Applicants who took either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and/or the American College Test (ACT) during high school must submit the test score results as part of their application. Tests taken during college are inadmissible. "
So then if you didn’t take it in high school (perhaps because you planned on community college) are you off the hook?
@philbegas That’s a question you would have to ask the school’s admissions office. I would say they probably won’t look at them.
