Which ACT should I use when the admissions people see my UC app?

So, right now I have my highest ACT score (29) listed on my uc app, and I received my December scores and I got the same score, but a different breakdown. My December scores are a little more balanced, but I'm not sure if I should update the app or keep it like it is.

September ACT Score that is listed on the UC application:

Composite-29

English-26
Math-35
Reading-28
Science-25

December ACT Scores:

Composite-29

English-28
Math-33
Reading-29
Science-25

Send both, UChicago superscores.

I will for UChicago, but on the UC app, one main score is seen by the admissions people and they don’t have to look at your other scores. So, I am not sure which score looks better?

Probably the second one. Improving from a 26 to 28 in Reading moves you up by about 6 percentile. Plus you improved slightly in reading.

Falling from a 35 to a 33 in math only moves you down by about 2 percentile.

If you have listed something math-related as your intended major, you may prefer the first one.

Thanks for the input Pancaked. I put down environmental science for most of the UC’s, but I did econ or engineering to some. UCLA is my #1 choice and I put down environmental science there, so do you think the second one would be better?

bumpppppppp

I agree with Pancaked. The second one looks better.

Ok, thanks. I updated my UC app. Do you think I have a chance at UCLA with a 29 ACT and a 4.4 UC GPA?

It’s hard to tell without reading your essays. UChicago is huge on essays.

I meant for UCLA.

Send both scores. You only have to send official scores to one UC so cost is not a major issue (if you send to one all others you applied to also get it). Let the UCs choose because to determine admission they will consider that test they believe is the better for you. You have a chance for UCLA.

If you are only going to send one to UC, make it December which has the higher Eng score.

I hope you have some financial safeties on your list, because OOS publics and schools like Chicago, Northwestern and Stern are huge stretches with a 29. While BU maybe possible, you are unlikely to receive any financial aid there.
