I'm taking precalc honors online over the summer on FLVS. I feel confident enough to get a 95+ every nine weeks. The school requires a student to get a 95 or higher in precalc in order to take Ap Calc BC next year. I got a 97 for both semesters in Algebra 2 honors. I'll take Calc 3 at FSU junior year if I have to. I will also take Ap Stats my senior year to make it laid back. My question is which course should I take if this is the case? I'll be a sophomore next year.

I could be wrong with this (my school does it a little differently than other schools), but I believe AP Calc AB should come before BC. At least at my school, we do Calc AB for the first semester and BC for the second semester. I know that traditionally, BC combines Calc 1 and 2. It depends on the school. It could combine Calc 1 and 2 or it could be strictly Calc 2 which comes after completely AB.

BC

Sounds like you should be able to handle Calc BC

AB. Really, you have to know almost everything in order to excel in BC, unless you’re completely confident you have what it takes to make it in BC.

BC is really not that different from AB actually. If you are doing that well, you might as well take BC. It will also look like you are challenging yourself which colleges definitely like to see.

AB. What will you do after BC?

@dsi411 I will take Calc 3 at my local college junior year. Then senior year, I will take statistics.

Oh then do whatever you want.

BC’s faster and more in depth than AB, and covers a lot of material. How is it not that different?

That’s what I was thinking. Since Ap calc bc reviews most of calc ab plus more topics, I would ace it after taking calc ab sophomore year. Is AP calc ab still impressive as a sophomore? Also, which calc do u recommend? @mrnephew

Yup. I’m going to take Calc BC as a sophomore, but the thing is, I’m very confident in my understanding of basic Algebra - Precalculus material.

I can’t recommend anything until I know more, but if you’re taking PC over summer, then AB is my best chance.

I just found at that my school will only let juniors and seniors take Ap Calc BC. Sophomores can however take Ap Calc AB. Do you know how hard AB will be? @mrnephew

It goes a lot slower, so it probably won’t be too difficult. Although it will still be challenging.
