Which AP classes are generally regarded as the hard AP classes?

I know AP Physics is considered pretty difficult, I suck at Chemistry so I’m inclined to say that one’s hard too, but I think it may be just me.

european history, calculus AB and BC, physics C

Maybe comp science, I took the class and got an A but i got a 2 at the exam, would that matter?

Ap Lit

I think that having a knowledge of these ‘highly regarded’ APs is important. I have based my classes in high school on finding APs that are regarded very highly, but perhaps are not as difficult at my particular school. For example, I took AP Chem, which is generally highly regarded, but at my school, the teacher is so good that the class is a breeze.

Any AP class in a core subject, not an elective like art history.

anything that’s not like ap music theory or art history i guess

“anything that’s not like ap music theory”

I just completed this course; it’s damn near impossible for those without perfect pitch (including myself).

It may not be rigorous in terms of workload, but try an AP-test harmonic dictation or sight-singing; as challenging as any AP.

It depends on your major, really.
I’m not really a science person, so I would think AP Physics and Chem are pretty tough. I think colleges like seeing AP core subjects, such as Calc or Lit. AP Pysch is pretty “simple”, although you should still take it because it really helps you. The stuff you learn is helpful for life (a bit cliche, but I honestly think so)

i was just about to say that myself :). although i have not taken it myself, i have numerous friends that say that one is super tough…

Let me just tell you what is not regarded as highly. Art History, Ap american/comparative gov, Economics, Environmental Science, Art history (and all art), Phsycology…thats pretty much it all the rest are good

just cause music theory is hard doesn’t mean colleges gives a **** if you have perfect pitch. If you haven’t played an instrument, you shouldn’t take it in the first place. Relative pitch is more than enough to ace the class.

“Relative pitch is more than enough to ace the class.”

Also incorrect. Have you taken AP Music Theory? Relative pitch can be helpful in the context of dictations (melodic or harmonic), sight-singing, or listening-based multiple choice; it’s still not enough to differentiate seventh chords, or grasp difficult part-writing concepts.

lol psycology is doo doo, one of my freinds took it after only a week of studying and is gonna get a 5 lol, proves how easy and useless it is.

I hated Art History-- of course I’m a math/science person.

I’ve heard Macro/Micro with FLVS is a joke-- is this true? How about in general?

“Also incorrect. Have you taken AP Music Theory? Relative pitch can be helpful in the context of dictations (melodic or harmonic), sight-singing, or listening-based multiple choice; it’s still not enough to differentiate seventh chords, or grasp difficult part-writing concepts.”

I was just about to say this, so I’ll limit it to an anecdote:
My friend just took the AP Music Theory Test this year, after studying for months. She’s played piano for as long as she can remember, and is really good. I don’t think she’s ever gotten anything lower than an A-, and our school is really tough. Needless to say at this point, the AP nearly annihilated her. She says she’ll be lucky to PASS, let alone get a 4/5 like she’s done on every other AP she’s taken.

AP Music Theory is no joke.

My two cents:

APs that are viewed as tough/more impressive:

Calc AB/BC (especially BC)
Chem
Physics B/C (especially C)
World

Agreed on AP Music Theory. I tried to take it as an independent study and was basically told to not even bother. Friends from other schools where it’s actually offered have so many horror stories, too. I’ve been privately studying viola and voice for years while also being involved in orchestra and choir. A lot of my friends that took it are like me, and they were struggling (although they said it was a really interesting class).

At my school, AP Calc, AP Chem, and the AP History courses are the most demanding. The problem is that every school teaches differently, so what may be considered more prestigious in general may not match with your school’s curriculum.

At our HS, AP Calc AB is not considered to be hard or impressive but AP Calc BC is considered hard.
