Hi, I'm currently a sophomore planning out my schedule for junior year. I'm at a decent rank right now, but I want to maintain being in the top 5% competing with the other kids. These are the classes I'm taking right now..

-Honors English 3-4
-Honors Algebra 2
-Honors Chemistry
-H Spanish 5-6
-AP World History
-Journalism/Newspaper
-Study Hall

I'm thinking of taking these for Junior year:
AP English
AP US History
AP Chemistry
Trig/Pre-calc
Computers/Health
Art

Is this enough AP classes for junior year to look decent for high-status or ivy-league colleges?

Also, should I take AP Chemistry? I've heard pretty nasty things about AP chem but if I'm doing really well in Honors Chem will I be okay? I'm still deciding what to study for college, and even if I pass the AP exam I'm not sure if the college I attend will accept it.

I'm still contemplating if I should take AP Spanish as well. I don't have space in my schedule but I could switch it in if I needed to. My current spanish teacher highly recommended me for it, but I'm not sure if I can pass as a non-native speaker.

ANY SUGGESTIONS / TIPS appreciated :)

You could do AP Macro/Micro Econ, if you felt like it. I’d wait another year on AP Spanish, but that’s just my opinion. If you have the time, you could potentially travel someplace (like CSA, in Guatemala) to do some immersive Spanish studies before taking the AP exam. You could do this in late July/August. That would help prepare you.

You can do AP Chem. It’s not that bad, seriously. I took it this past year, as a freshman. I got a 5 on the AP exam, and an 800 on the corresponding SATII. I had not taken ANY Chem course beforehand (for instance, I didn’t know what an ion was, what made something an acid, what an isotope was…). I also didn’t have the math necessary–I was taking Geometry. So…if I could do it, you can!! Just focus on the big concepts, and then all the little details will fall into place. Otherwise, you’ll get bogged down, and AP chem will turn into a nightmare. :)

AP HG. This class might not worth a period because most of the concepts don’t require much explaination but they are very useful IRL. I recommend taking it as a self study class if you want to learn something that benefit you in real life and not just to impress the college board.

Some stuff you learn in APHG:

How society first start and how they behave as in migration, agriculture, different sectors of working in different developed and less developed countries.

What cause society to grow such as Green rev, Indus Rev, G.I bill, Expandsion of highways and its consequences.

How land is use regarding agricultural and economy around the world.
