Which AP Science to Take Senior Year

I know AP Physics B is more algebra/trig based. And people tell me calculus is not used extensively in AP Physics C. And B has more topics, but C goes more in-depth.

I'm awful at calculus. And I'm okay at physics (I'm in Physics 1 Honors and I get at least a B on most quizzes and first semester I got an A for the class). I'm not going into pre-med, engineering, or anything like that.

I can handle having a lot of topics to memorize, but I'm just worried I'm not cut out for C. I'm not much of a problem-solver, I prefer straight-forward solutions, even if it takes a longer amount of time.

My other option is AP Biology. I got a 92 for the year in Biology 1 Honors, but my tests were always 80's or something like that, whereas my Physics quizzes average at a B but fluctuate a lot (I've gotten one F, two D's, five B's, and five A's.) I've heard AP Bio is all memorization.

So...which one should I take?

I’m in AP Bio and I definitely think that was the best decision I could’ve made. I was in regular biology my freshman year actually, just cause I hate science, but this year I’m making A’s in AP Bio- I have a great teacher and it’s seriously straight memorization. Even though I liked chemistry because I like math and logic, I know AP Physics is nearly impossible, and AP Chemistry gets pretty tricky too.

Hope that helps!

Also you didn’t mention it, but AP Environmental Science is a joke.

Hey, thanks, Alexxmichele, that was really helpful!

I settled for AP Physics B, but I still have till June to change my mind if I suddenly start failing and/or hating Physics.

And thanks, I wasn’t considering AP Environmental, but some kids were trying to talk me into taking it.

The amount of calculus in AP Physics C depends on if you are taking electricity and magnetism or mechanics or both. The calculus in mechanics is not used extensively and usually goes to taking the derivative of equations or integrating (rare) while derivatives and integrating are used more extensively in E&M as well as differential equations.

I took Physics B and it was a good course. Not too difficult and not too much work. The AP has a very nice curve too.

At my school, most students take both exams (both sections are taught).

Well, anyway, thanks for the advice!

I was worried about it all and thinking of switching to AP Bio.
