So...I'm going to be a junior (class of 2012) in the fall. My school is pretty intense - USNEWS ranked in the top 30's. So i'm not sure which classes to take... I want to be a premed (possibly as a BME major).
Full honors, got one B+ in honors chem , SAT bio 770, PSAT 210.

Schedule I'm thinking about right now:
AP Chem
AP Spanish (level 5)
AP Stats
APUSH
Honors English
Honors Precalculus

Senior year
AP Physics B
AP Calculus
Finite and Discrete Math
AP English Lit
AP Spanish Lit
Gov/Econ

... yeah. It seems kinda crazy...my main questions are:
1. Should I take APUSH OR NOT!!?!?!?! It's driving me crazy. I'm good at humanities-stuff, but if it's not my intended major is it worth the pain?

I will take all the math courses offered at school, but not science. I'm missing AP envi sci (which I already self studied) and AP biology. Will the biology hurt me? Should drop another class for it?

I honestly didn’t think APUSH was that bad. One of my friends who barely does any homework/studying ended up with a low A in APUSH, but that could just be my school.

Honestly, show your passions. Don’t make the reason you take APUSH just to impress an admissions committee, and don’t NOT take it if you want to. You, ultimately, are trying to market yourself, and if your passions don’t lie in history then take something you’d personally find exciting, interesting, and enriching instead.

I would encourage you to take the US History course in your junior year. I’m not sure whether or not you’ve already taken a lower level USH class. If you haven’t, or if it were one that didn’t focus on significant reports and analysis, this is one of those classes that’s a big deal for some selective schools.

I think that taking two AP math courses in your senior year doesn’t have a great deal of merit, unless you have a passion for math. Even in college, unless you’re a math major, that’s an unlikely mix in the same year. Also I doubt that most selective colleges would recommend that you place out of most higher level math classes with the exception of Calculus 1. Perhaps taking the two math classes in your junior year will help your college application. Statistics is pretty basic to many sciences

My understanding is the Spanish Literature is no longer an AP course (regardless of the label at your school). An AP exam is no longer offered in the timeframe that you’ll be taking it. Most likely it would become an Honors course.

Coursework is not the only way to refine your science skills. Have you considered an independent research project instead of the 6th class in your junior or senior year?

APUSH is easy, so no worries there. I practically self-studied for it last year (my teacher was woefully inadequate and prepared us for the regents rather than the AP), and still pulled a 4. Since Spanish Lit is no longer offered, perhaps you can put Bio there instead?
