Which AP Scores to report?

So far I've taken

AP Chem - 5
AP Calc AB - 5
AP Calc BC - 5
Stats - 5

but

English Lang - 3
Physics C - 3
US History - 3

And I have A's in all those classes
Should I report the last 3 scores, or will that look bad since my school gave me A's when I could only get 3's on the AP tests?

Thanks for your advice!

I'm in a similar situation and am also interested any responses to this question.

Last time I checked a 3 was still considered passing. The score on your AP exam isn't much of a factor when it comes to admissions anyway.

keep in mind that, because college board is so awful, you have to pay i think it's $10 for each score you want to withold for each school you're sending a score report to. so, everytime you want to send your scores to a school, you pay the original $15 or whatever it is, and then $30 to withold the 3's (if you want to do that), and that's just for one school. you can't just withold them once from your master score report, you have to do it for each school.

i don't think it would hurt you, but i'm really not sure. maybe for the topmost schools you're applying to, dish out the extra $30 if you can afford it and really don't want the 3's showing.. but for your matches/safetys, 3's probably wouldn't hurt you at all. of course it depends on what is a match/safety for you.. but yeah.. i've heard that 3's don't hurt.

Definitely put down the 3s. They're still pretty good, and if you don't put them down, since the classes are on your transcript, the schools might assume that you got a 1 or 2 or did not bother to take the exam at all, which they really wouldn't like.

Thanks for the advice guys. Bluetissues, I'm a fellow Washingtonian so UW is my safety, and I'm applying to Stanford and MIT as my reaches. I was actually thinking about the self-report section of the app instead of witholding official grades. I guess the 3s are better than being too ambiguous right?

I asked a similar question on the parents forum (about reporting AP scores of 3). Most responses said it is okay, in general, to "withhold" (ie. not report) scores, if you think it detracts from your record. Many students don't report any AP scores at all since the real purpose of the scores is for placement rather than admission and many students take AP courses without ever taking the AP test so adcoms do not necessarily expect to see a test score for every AP course. But bluetissues is correct that it can be complicated and expensive to report some but not all the scores. Considering you have so many 5s, I think your overall AP record is very good and it would be in your favor to report all the scores. Other perspectives were discussed on the "what to do with discouraging scores" thread on the parents forum. You might want to check it out.

There was an article somewhere where they had several real admissions officers comment on a bunch of made-up students. One girl had a high GPA, SATs, etc, and a good number of AP classes. However, she only reported scores for about half of the tests, and the main comment for the girl was that the absence of these scores would definitely be up for discussion.

First off, do NOT pay CB to submit your scores until after you have accepted your college in May of senior year; that is the reason CB only gives you one 'free' score report it's meant to be used senior year after you have sent in your deposit. Self-report the scores instead, in the "Other" section of the application. IMO, only report good scores, and 'good' is defined on whatever a college will give credit. Obvsiously, a 3 will not help at HYPSM, so don't report the scores for those schools -- they'll diminish the 5's. But do report the 3's to your state Uni, since they will likely give full credit for a 3.
