I’m currently a freshman in an American high school looking to attend the University of Cambridge later on. Looking at their requirements, I saw that they required a minimum of 5 APs with a score of 5. If accepted, I would be planning to study physics. Do you have any recommendations over which APs I should take that would be beneficial for my admission to Cambridge?
You need to contact the Cambridge Admissions Office or your college of choice to check. For the first two years you would be studying Natural Sciences though (three experimental sciences + maths), not just physics. If you want only physics for the whole duration of the degree, you’ll need to look at Oxford instead.
Calculus, Physics (I think AP Physics has several courses?), Chemistry, Biology are all good ideas.
As many maths and sciences possible. Some good ones would be: AP Calculus BC, AP Stat, AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics 1 + 2, etc…
All good advice, except Stats, as it only counts as 1/2 an AP.
As much Math as you can because Americans tend to very very behind most other countries in this subject (even if you personally are not, you have to prove this to Cambridge).
According to UCAS, all Physics courses count as one (and yes, I know Cambridge doesn’t really follow it, but that gives a general idea). Calculus BC is a must. Chem is probably also a must.
If possible, it would be a good idea to just take all the math and sciences (even the easier ones).
Contact the college you are applying to and seek their advice.
