On the common app, you can list any amount of awards you want. However, only the top 5 will get printed out. Here were the five I thought I was going to list:

Top 10% for 9-11th grades

AP Scholar with Distinction

Admission into state's Governor school

National Spanish Exam Awards

National Merit Semi-finalist

However, I recently won a fairly prestigious award for a math competition, and I don't have the space to list it with the math team. So I think I'm going to list it in my awards instead. But I don't know which ones to cut out. Cutting out one of the first two seems like the obvious choice, especially the first one. But I'd like to show colleges that I have had strong academic performance for the last three years. I'm not sure if it is as important as my math award though. In any case, I guess a lot more people get the top 10% award then the math award. Should I cut out my Top 10% listing in favor of my new math award?

Upload a brag sheet onto your account and put them all there. You can also have your EC’s and service hours on it.

The SSR that your HS GC fills out lists your rank/class size/period covered, so you don’t need to list it under awards.

What math award do you have, AMC, AIME? If so, then DEFINITELY put those.

And you can take out AP Scholar with distinction, colleges Will (i really hope lol) be able to infer that from your AP scores. You can also take out top 10%. Your rank and GPA will tell all. And colleges require either exact rank and class size, or decile. In any case, colleges get your transcript, so they will see any trends in your gpa?

I decided not to put the award. The problem was that there was too much explanation needed and I don’t think I could list it in the space given. I think the award is fairly hard to get and noticable, but it is not as recognizable as the AMC so that officials would be able to understand directly. I am simply going to upload on a resume and hope that people notice it. I guess the problem with the Common App is that there is not enough space to list both your ECs and the awards you won in them at the same place.
