Which BA/MD Programs are right for me?

^Temple University or their combine program? The UG that gave my D. the highest Merit award of all places that she has applied happened to reject her pre-interview from their bs/md. Scholarship money do not mean anything for bs/md acceptance. But if Temple combined program has expressed interest in you, why are you asking here. Apply, attend and be happy.

What is your ACT score? Here is a list of undergrad scholarships for Temple. It looks like you may be at Dean’s level now unless you have a 31 on ACT or crossed 1350 for CR+M.

http://admissions.temple.edu/sites/admissions/files/uploads/188_1213_scholarship_info_sheet.pdf

GPA is based on number of credits. So without knowing how many credits you already have, no one can tell you how much it goes up.

So if you have 40 semester credits now, the new GPA is ((40 x 3.6) + (7 x 4))/4.

Yes, but them showing interest does not mean that i will be accepted into the BS/MD program. That interest merely reflects that i will be accepted into the college, not the program. And i have CR+M 1400 and a GPA of 3.62. I dont know how much that will go up by the end of this semster. Maybe up to 3.7?

Looks like you meet the Provost’s scholar but not the highest level unless they use weighted GPA for awarding these scholarships. Are you a Pennsylvania native?

Yeah. I might barely meet the presidents if my GPA gets raised. But no, i am not a penn state native

This may be a stupid question, but what is D?

All the better then since the numbers cover most of your tuition except for about 5k, even at the provost level.

D - daughter.

Um, it says that the examinations were supposed to be in the admissions office by March 1st… Im a junior, so does this mean its too late for me?

@texaspg you formula “(40 x 3.6) + (7 x 4))/4” would yeild an impressive GPA of 43. So I think you meant to divide by 44 total credit hours making a more human average of 3.8. Having said that if your unweigted GPA on a scale of 0-4 is 43 you can get into any college you want.

Absolutely DO NOT send in your SAT if you got a 34 on ACT!! Unless the school specifically asks for an SAT score. Seriously, that ACT score is so much better. Check the concordance tables.

I missed a 7 at the end. It should be 40+7 since you divide by number of classes.

((40 x 3.6) + (7 x 4))/(40+7)

What examinations are you referring to KD? The links are for information only. Your process starts in fall.

sorry, i meant “applications”, not examinations. My bad. Anyways, i dont quite understand what this formula is saying. Can you explain that to me? and yeah, i just realized that the March 1st deadline for me would mean march 1st of 2014… not this passed march.

So, do you guys think that programs with temple would be a good match for me? btw, i have a complete list of the programs i have been looking at. As you can see, theyre all on the eastern coast. Just sayin

Template → College (Pre-Med) w/ Medical School
Temple University w/ Temple
Duquesne w/ Temple Medical College
Washington & Jefferson College w/ Temple
Drexel University w/ Drexel
Lehigh w/ Drexel University
Rosemont w/ Drexel
Villanova w/ Drexel
Penn State w/ Jefferson
George Washington University
St. Bonaventure w/ GW
Rensselaer w/ Albany
Siena w/ Albany
Union College w/ Albany
SUNY Stony Brook w/ Stony Brook
U of Pitt w/ Pitt
University of Rochester w/ Rochester

So, now that you all have a complete list of my interests. Any additions? comments? i know some of these are a VERY far reach (GW for example), but hey, its worth a shot.

I don’t believe many of those places look as favorably upon a high ACT as they do a high SAT. I got a 35 and I didn’t get into Siena. Of course, that is not the only factor, but many programs prefer the SAT, especially in the Northeast where the SAT is predominant.

yeah. i guess your right. So do you recommend i retake it?

hey guys, from that list i just provided, which one do you think is the best shot for me? and if you guys have any ideas that are not on the list, please add

Here’s the deal, don’t listen to these people, I had similar Satistics, UW GPA of 3.7 and SAT of 2080 ACT 31. Everyone told me I wouldn’t get into any combined med programs, I applied to 8 and i got into the one i loved most. So just do your best to get involved this summer and next year, take any volunteer opportunity possible, especially medically related, and make sure your essays are out of this world. If you get an interview, blow their minds in the interview. Thats how you get in. I know people with unbelievable grades that couldn’t get into one so to everyone who thinks grades get you in, you’re wrong

i agree with egy. i was suprised to see my neighbour get into umkc with low scores. scores dont matter. overall package matters

alright guys thanks a lot. And also, HP, since UMKC is in the midwest, and since the ACT is way more popular in the midwest, do you think with an ACT score of 34 i would have a good chance to get in? even though my SATs are a little low?

Students don’t realize that a lot hinges on your essays, recos, and ECs, things that make you stand out from the crowd. Try to find a med EC that is less common. For me, that was EMS, and it worked out very well and I am proud that I have progressed in that field (just got my EMT certification). Try to do something to make you unique, because with these programs, high test scores are not unique at all.

I agree with egy it’s a whole package thing. As for Siena, it’s such a different specialized program - they are looking for a specific thing and TONS of donated time.

If your SAT’s are bad then don’t send them in. My D got in with just ACT in an east coast school and she never even took the SAT. Some schools may specifically ask for subject test but other than that I don’t think they have any preference between ACT or SAT.
