For current students, which bank is the best in terms of ease of use? I've heard Wachovia has a branch on campus. Have also heard the Bank of America ATMs always run out of money. What has been your experience?

My information is now a year old.

1.) Wachovia has an ATM on East Campus and one on West Campus. They have a branch very close to East Campus, but as of June 2006 they did not actually have a branch on campus per se.

2.) Bank of America only has an ATM on West Campus. I never had problems with its... uh, cash flow situation over my four years of using it. The nearest branch to West Campus (near Target) is driving, not walking distance. The nearest branch to East Campus (near North Pointe) should be considered driving distance as well, as the neighborhood isn't the best.

3.) Actually there are probably several resources within the hospital area -- I seem to vaguely recall an actual bank there as well as a variety of ATMs scattered about, particularly in the area near the PRT (a very small train-like thing) stations.

Wachovia is a good choice, they have a branch on 9th street (just off east campus) as well as ATMs on East, on West, and in the med center.

Actually come to think of it, I believe Wachovia also has a small branch over in the med center.

My family always appreciated the national reach of Bank of America -- we had a branch in my hometown, too, which allowed me to do things while at home on vacation, etc.

I have a wachovia down the street from my house, so I naturally chose that bank at Duke.

If you get a job on campus, the banking situation gets annoying, so I would suggest direct deposit.
