Which bank should I open a checking account at?

I currently reside in LA, so there's a Citibank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and CHASE within a minute of me... so I don't know which one to choose...

I was thinking Chase Student Checking until I heard that BoA is closest to Cal... can I still get the BoA Cal Card if I open the account at a BoA in LA?

There’s a student run Credit Union on campus.

I think there’s a Chase bank right across the street from BofA on Shattuck.

Can’t go wrong with either, although I don’t know if I’ve seen a Citibank close to campus. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t really looked out for one though. Someone could probably point you towards the closest ATM. Go for whatever gives you less crappy fees.

Most people here use Wells Fargo or Bank of America. Chase is fine but the other two have more ATMs around campus.

Each bank has either eBanking or student accounts that’s basically “free” for you.

I would go with Wells Fargo or Bank of America too, just because of their proximity to campus in addition to a branch being close back home.

The closest Citibank is at Shattuck x University.

Whichever bank you end up choosing will have a student account option that has no monthly cost. Also if they want to charge you for a checkbook, push for it to be given to you free (they do have the power to waive that fee).

I echo Wells Fargo or Bank of America. I use Bank of America and have had no issues.

Bank of America. Their ATMs are closer to campus. However, you have to sign up for their echecking account if you don’t want to deal with monthly fees.

i have WF. havent had any problems so far either.

I have Wells Fargo but I think I’d rather have Bank of America. Their ATMs are just closer to restaurants so you don’t have to make your friends wait for you when you guys go out.

yes you can still get the Cal card - just walk into the telegraph location and ask for one. I have both BoA and citibank. Hardly ever use the citibank because it’s so much farther away (of course, if you live near University, your mileage may vary)

I like Wells Fargo. They are nice. I used to have Washington Mutual, but then they turned into Chase and have sucked ever since.

The thing I want to know is how I can get those nifty cards with the huge CAL logo on it. Looks FANCY.

I got the Cal cards (debit and credit with the swirly Cal script across the front) from BoA by Gourmet Ghetto. The debit card is mostly blue, credit mostly yellow.

if i opened a checking account and credit card from BoA somewhere else, is it still possible for me to get a cal card to replace my existing card?

Not sure - you should go in and ask the people at customer service.

yes, you can always get a cal card.

Kind of a dumb question but what is a cal card? Are you talking bout the Cal 1 card? Because I’m not sure what that has to do with BoA or WF.

@meakame

so i can tell them to get me a cal card with the same card number and info to replace my old one?

@aceattorney

I believe the Cal card everyone’s talking about is just the BoA debit card with the word Cal on it as the background.

Bank of America
