i been searching for threads about rocket review....and have found some reviews...but nothing really solid that convinces me to get it...so i want a consensus on rocket review, does it really help writing and the essay part?
and barons 2400...is it only for smart people like 2000+? or can anyone use it and improve? i heard the math is really hard but is beneficial in the end for sat and is there explanations in the book or you have to buy it? i already have the blue book so are they the same or have different strategies and techniques and practice tests?

I barely looked at the Essay section for Barrons 2400, but the list of grammar for Barrons 2400 is good enough. I think it is pretty helpful.

But, I advise you that Barrons 2400 is not a guarantee that you will immediately spot grammar errors; your practice is. Sure, you know which ones exist in the test, but you need to practice in order to see them. Knowing the errors is one thing; being able to tackle the problems in the SAT is another.

One way to improve your writing is to follow the rules of grammar and capitalization in even the simplest assignments, e-mails, and board postings. Over time, better communication skills will develop.

It's not specifically geared toward test prep, but Strunk & White's The Elements of Style is short, clear, and absolutely the best book on the market for grammar and composition.

anyone tried rocket or the Kaplan's Sat subject 2 for mathematics level 2? is it any good?

bump anyone used these books: Barron's 2400, RocketRevolution, Kaplan Sat Subject 2 Mathematics Level 2

akati, you probably know this already, but I found RocketReview very helpful for the essay, although for me it was not much good for anything else. I didn't realy support the critical reading methods the author gave, because they didn't work for me--I had my own way of doing it. For math I just used my math skills.

You should probably look for RocketReview in your library if you're hesitant about buying it. So I don't think RocketReview is the best of all the study guides, but I do think it's best for essay advice. Just follow what I've told you for the essays, and get lots of practice--I've basically summarized all the good stuff in RocketReview :)

my library does not offer such books...=(

Don't buy it just for the essay advice alone.

If I were you, I would look for more sample essay prompts from www.collegeboard.com or other places. When you think you've done a good job on an essay, post it and see what others think. The best way to improve is to practice.

Also, if I were you, I'd go to a bookstore that has the book and spend an hour or two reading the essay section. You can probably absorb 40 to 50 pages of good, solid essay writing advice there in that time.

If you can't find it in a bookstore, just look for essay questions, look at top-scoring and low-scoring essay samples, write your own, revise it and fix it up, and then post it and see what others think. I'll throw in some tidbits from the book.
